I received my first copy of “The Language of Letting Go” in 1992 on the anniversary of my 1st year of sobriety. I didn’t really get what I was reading when I began, and saw mostly other people and their behavior in it.
The 2nd time through I began seeing myself.
After growing up in a home with a WWII war veteran who became alcoholic and (years later, i understood) had PTSD, and a French war bride mother who had her own PTSD and an ever growing depression, TLoLG became my teacher (along with AA & later DAA) for living life and dealing with family, relationships, work associates, and all my friends and other members in the programs.
I worked with teenagers in a locked facility for 20 years and have sent many home with copies of this guide for life, (I’ve also bought and have given multiple copies to sponsee’s I’ve worked and work with) and I also made copies of some of the readings I thought most poignant, that they could relate to and find help in, and would tape them inside the copy of books in the library I kept for the kids to read.
Many of those kids loved the readings, they would become topics for group and our individual conversations.
Truly a life saver and full life giver!
