Poor maintenance

The app is great for seeing ads. The problem I am encountering is so many of the boats are sold. The people I’m talking to say they’ve tried to remove it but can’t. One said she had emailed Boatsales several times.
Also, the filters don’t work properly. I input my state and size of desired boat and often get results that are not applicable.
Come Boatsales, you can do better.

Great setup and consistent ui.

Easy to use once familiarised and to find whatever boat you might be after.

Doesn’t need much to be a whole lot better

I am currently looking for a boat over 30 foot. There is a lot of rubbish in the system where people will put a 17 foot boat as 17 metres, so it shows their boat as being longer than a Sydney ferry and then you see a photo of a trailer boat. it is not checked (no qc) before the ad is uploaded. Also this boat share stuff should be in its own category. You want pay a premium to use a boat for an 1/8 of a year when the weather is wet and windy like the butchers cat do it somewhere else.

Geographic location & Broker identification

When wanting to find where the boat is located it is arduous to find who is broker & where boat is located. To state it is in NSW could mean 800 km away. As for QLD, it is even worse. Dump the mystery of hiding this info & just state who is broker & where they are. Yachthub & Boats on line are far superior in this and other functionality.
Also the details of boat attributes is in majority of cases quite inferior & of little benefit in evaluating the merits of the boat.

Boatsales? or car ads?

Searching for sailboats? Please peruse our motorboats, car ads and some sailboats.
Also, despite several updates they’re still listing Euro & $US prices rather than $AUD despite being an Australian sales site. They choose not to convert it first and offer no options to filter by currency. Add in all the ‘Get Price’ returns and the price filter becomes a complete farce.

Response from developer

Hi Spike, the new ad targeting is across all of our platforms. If you have visited carsales then you may be re-targeted with car ads on boatsales. With regards to currency, in most cases, the boats with European prices are boats for sale in countries that will sell in the Eurodollar. Your right our search only looks at the numerical number and doesn't consider currency. I hope understanding its limitation will help you navigate it easier in the future. Thanks for the feedback we will take it on board.

Review

App freezes a lot and when you look at an add and try to go back it takes you back to the top of the page and you have to scroll all the way down again. Also shows the first two ads twice as you scroll through.

Also a pain to switch between Carsales, Boatsales and caravan sales. Needs three seperate app or make it easy to switch between them

Needs a LOT of work.

The “Boatsales” application “does what it says on the label”, but it could definitely do with some work.

For a start, why do I keep seeing the “reCAPTCHA” security challenges? I mean, I get that it’s because I’m connected online via my VPN - but whilst a website might need “reCAPTCHA” security challenges, a locally-installed application should not (which is why I don’t see this in other applications I have installed)!

Then there’s all the “Get price” stuff... Why on Earth can we not apply a filter to hide all of these entries? Honestly, I don’t want to scroll though a million “Get price” entries, just to see the vessels with an actual price listed!

Lastly, why does it have to be so hard to find houseboats? The “Boatsales” website has a link to immediately browse all of the houseboats currently for sale, but thus far, I have been unable to find a similar option in the “Boatsales” application... I should be able to open “Boatsales”, click “Houseboats” and see a complete list of all the houseboats currently for sale.

At the time of writing, “Boatsales” is - as best I can tell - the definitive application for selling and purchasing marine vessels in Australia, and for that reason alone, it is recommended... But don’t be fooled - this application is “nothing to write home about” and needs a LOT of work before anyone can call it something special.

Lots of enquires and very few responses

90 % of my enquirers have had no responses and the next day I receive a message telling me interest is increasing so be quick to purchase, obviously from my own interest.
And you can’t write a review because all the nicknames are taken?

Not bad

Mostly good, but for some reason I get many duplicate boats in my ‘saved boats’ list. I also seem to get a lot of ads with ‘get price’ even when I filter for ads with prices only.

Viewing options

There needs to be an option to delete boats from your search instead of seeing the same time wasting boats appear every time.
