Gorgeous Graphics, but...
The graphics are top notch. The design is great and it runs smoothly with no lag or crashes. However, without paying for the extra ships, it gets repetitive. Pretty soon you'll know all the weapon upgrades, powers and enemies after a few games. Only recently did I find something new, which was a type of enemy. I wish the ships and online leaderboards were free too. Also new stages would be a great addition. If these happen then 5 stars.Show lessFretts88
Ohh fricken yes
Brilliant old skool style arcade shooter. The developers have hit the nail on the head with this one, taking the best elements from other shooters from decade ago and bringing together HD and a whole load of other Fu*#king cool stuff. Every game you play is different, the weapons always get upgraded In a seemingly random order and the enemies and their guns seem to constantly change. This gives the game awesome depth and there is a lot of replay value here.
This is a mentally sick game and worth every penny..... Seriously though, I have purchased the crossfire and as soon as I can justify it to my bank balance I am gonna get the other ship

Great, but also terminally flawed.
Like the original Phoenix that came before it, Phoenix HD is - in terms of gameplay, visuals and audio - very good, great in fact for a free title. Where it loses my faith entirely however is where it refuses to save any form of high score without you paying out for the Online Pass. Okay, fair enough... if you want to fight with the big leagues worldwide I can justify them charging for the privilege. What I DON'T like is how it won't let me record my own high scores just for my own benefit! I'm not interested in seeing how I stack up online, really I'm not. But I don't enjoy setting a pretty decent score, only to have it tell me the next time I play that I've never set a score at all! Very demoralising and not at all enjoyable. What point is an app without you being able to try and beat your high scores? No replay value at all. Yes I could pay, but why should I have to just for that feature? Until that's fixed, my score stays firmly at 2 stars. If you value the effort you put in, stick with the original.Show lessMattChand501

I was about to get the highest score I've possibly got and beat my own record and the record of my friends when I suddenly got a text off and friend and a notification, I like how the game pauses the game automatically but then is totally useless when the game centre message comes up asking you to sign in when I don't want to at all, and the game is still going on in the background and made me lose my game! Looks awesome, plays fantastically
This is easily the best app I've downloaded in a long time. The graphics are fantastic- probably the smoothest I've seen running on an iPhone- and the gameplay is simple but addictive. Best thing about this is that it's free to play, though. You could buy the extra ships and the added online functionality, but you really don't have to- the game isn't gimped like other ostensibly "free" games. That said, the unlockable ships are pretty cool and the online functionality is cool if only to see how insanely good some people are at this thing (seriously). Plus, the MAXIMUM amount you would have to spend to unlock all the paid content is three bucks.Show lessHammerman1990

This game is probably the best shooting em up that iv had on my ipod. I really like the graphics but wouls like to see more ships like 1 called Dragon that when you take damage it automatically shoots the ship the shot came from.
Ps make more free ships.
