Basic for simple conversion
While on a tour learning about SHIMADZU head quoter in Kyoto, I discovered they had built several technologies for iPhone and iPad and were telling us about their free app. As a commercial tool to advertise the company it is highly effective. As an everyday it is just average. Think of it like free 1Gb USB port giving to you after you visit some big name corporation.

What is this I don't even
I'm currently looking at getting a Shimadzu UV1800 spec, and when I saw you had a "Shimadzu UV" app I took it to mean you had an app to control your specs with an iOS device (wouldn't be unbelievable considering their PC connectivity.) At the very least, I thought it would be a lite version of your UV data analysis software.
Instead it's just a list of a few properties for a few organic solvents and water, a calculator for doing a few kinds of conversions that are totally irrelevant to spectrophotometry, and an ad. I'm not really trying to slam the company here, I just wanted to give my feedback that there are tremendous possibilities to be found in integrating sophisticated science equipment with the sophisticated mini-computers we carry around these days, and it seems a shame that the opportunity in this case was instead squandered on a glorified ad.
