What We Liked:
Number Bonds has SO many features for teaching and practicing addition number bonds, or as Math U See calls it – solving for the unknown! You can generate almost countless possible options when it comes to flashcards, test all sorts of ranges and single number combinations, choose from any number of questions or cards, set timers. Wow. The makers of Number Bonds just built a ton of flexibility into this app, making it the most powerful tool I’ve seen for practicing these vital pre-algebra math problems that help to build the foundation for subtraction and higher math.
The artwork and design is top notch with all those robot arms sliding in and out and all sorts of zooming and whirring noises. There has been a LOT of attention to detail in this app – there are all sorts of neat little progress trackers, arrows that zoom back and forth etc.
What We Didn’t Like:
Not a dislike, but a couple of suggestions. The app does generate statistics after each test round, but there isn’t a place that stores the statistics for future viewing by a parent.
The color scheme isn’t a traditional choice for a children’s app. It’s all brushed metal, dark colors with high contrast, and robot arms. Now – that might work well for you and your kids (the design is very professional), it’s a matter of personal preference, but it’s not my favorite for young children. I have four girls, and my oldest said, “I would give it 5 apples if it was all pink with sparkly sounds.” So there you go.
Overall:
Number Bonds is a no-fuss, get it done, flexible, comprehensive educational app for practicing number bonds in addition from 1-100. If you are looking for an app that will let YOU be the master of the content it serves your child, regardless of their current abilities – then this is the one you want. I doubt you’ll find a more feature packed app for teaching number bonds in the entire App Store.
Disclosure: I received a promo code to download this app.
