  • Red magazine

    Good reading magazine.
  • Not free!

This magazine app is not free. It's free to download, but if you want to read a copy, you have to pay. Why have a free section if it's not truly free? Don't waste my iPhone's battery life, & don't waste my time!
  • Expensive

Just like the paper version, which is fine if you have the option to subscribe at the same cost of the paper version. How can they possibly justify asking for 35pounds a year when it is essentially a PDF version of the magazine? I like the convenience of having it on the iPad but won't be subscribing until they drop the price or add iPad specific features to it along the lines of O magazine.

  • Just like the paper version

Works perfectly for me - whole magazine downloaded quickly (under 1 min) and i experienced no freezing / breaking when reading. Reads just like the magazine but on your iPad.
  • What about existing subscribers?

I love Red and realise that the misleading "free" tag is a function of newsstand not Red. But i do agree with earlier review that existing postal subscribers shd get free (or at least heavily discounted) access to editions they have already paid for. But it's early days... Red has an excellent website and has embraced Twitter, so hopefully this is just the first version of its app!

  • Beautiful Magazine

Try to ignore the 1star reviews complaining that you have to pay for the actual magazine as this appears to be how apple do apps that are part of their news stand and not specific to Red.

One of the things I like about this app is that you do get to preview each issue before deciding to buy. The preview is a small view of the magazine but allows you to look at every page and get a great idea of what you will get.

I bought the December issue which is fabulous. After a long day sat and read this issue and felt all Christmassy and happy again. Admittedly I had heard wonderful reviews of this issue on Twitter and definitely wasn't disappointed.

The reason I only gave it 4 stars is because this just a straight copy of the magazine, beautiful as it is it has to yet use any of the extra features that the iPad could add.

Also the pricing of the subscription packages seems a little odd at the moment, although £2.99 for a single issue seems like value for money. Although I am sure this will be rectified or made clearer in the near future.

I am sure over time once this app gets used more and more issues are downloaded they will be able to look at developing the integration with the iPad and offer a far richer experience.

  • Finally!

Great news that Red is on the iPad Newsstand. Would love to see some interactive features in the future, but for now just glad to read my favourite magazine on this device. I always use Red Hot section to plan my month!
