Description of NVS Tsunami Evacuation

* Oregon and Washington tsunami evacuation zone maps developed by the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries (DOGAMI) and the Washington Department of Natural Resources (WADNR) * NVS Tsunami app developed by the Northwest Association of Networked Ocean Observing Systems (NANOOS) NVS Tsunami provides you an at-a-glance view of where the tsunami hazard zones are along the Oregon and Washington coast, and allows you to map whether your home, work, school, etc. is located in a tsunami evacuation zone or not. To help you develop and plan your own evacuation routes, NVS Tsunami enables you to save your current position or points of interest via GPS or address look-up. As an important tool in preparing for a potentially catastrophic local or distant tsunami event for residents or visitors to the Pacific Northwest coast, NVS Tsunami also displays the locations of places that will be of critical importance prior to, during, and following a tsunami event, including schools, bridges, assembly areas, and various local government buildings. Features: o Up-to-date tsunami information published by Washington and Oregon state agencies and emergency managers, including evacuation zone maps, location of features of interest, and additional tsunami information for the public o Access to the most current tsunami warning bulletins from the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center o Find a location by either address or GPS

  • Push notifications need to be changed

Please allow control over the types of notifications. I see many other users asking for the same thing!

I would like to mute or disable push notifications for earthquake events that do not pose a threat.

Push notifications should be reserved for warning about **legitimate tsunami danger** (otherwise the user will disengage from the constant pop-ups, which defeats the purpose of the app!)

If this can be implemented, it would be a five-star app!

  • Needs to be able to filter alerts

The app shows good information about tsunami risk zones, etc. However my main interaction with it , unfortunately, is it sending me alerts for distant Alaskan earthquakes that “do not pose a tsunami risk” for my current location. I turned off sound for thesein IOS Settings, but they are still useless and annoying. The app should provide a way to filter out alerts for earthquakes more than a specified distance away from my location, and earthquakes that cause no tsunami risk for my location.

  • One fix could make this so much better

I live on the edge of an inundation zone, so I was delighted when this app was released. It's the kind of app that could really save lives in my community and so many others, and I'm incredibly grateful for the science and expertise behind it.

Here is something that would be a game changing improvement on the current build: how about sending an audible notification ONLY when the alert does not specify that there is no threat? That way, I don't have to chooose between getting a potentially life-saving alert and getting wakened on the regular by non-threatening events. I am not sure if there is an upside to waking me up only to read that something does not pose a threat. It seems like the downside - that users silence the notificications altogether at night - defeats the purpose of the app.

Thanks for considering my suggestion, and thanks again for working on this important project!
