  • Was good, but recently started to hang on launches

Hangs everytime now on every launch, tried resetting caches to no avail, hopefully a fix or workaround comes soon.

edit: I found out, it's because of enabling the examples dictionary. If I disable that, it no longer hangs.

  • It was nice till last update.

I using this app for few years and was happy till yesterday when I installed new update with rebuild interface. Very disappointed by this“update”, that made using of app less friendly. Going to look for something more reliably.
  • Simple and but helpful addition to your other Japanese language refs

Whether you’re studying Japanese or working on technical and medical translations, JEDict Lite helps. The lexicon it contains is appropriate for people with beginner and intermediate levels of Japanese, and is presented with an intuitive interface for ease of use. If you are stuck on a reading for a particular kanji you can use the pallet to write, then search and display the reading and related kanji and words. Also Japanese/English fonts are customizable making copy and paste into other docs useful.

The lexicon is drawn from the EDICT program at Monash University which has a long history in developing the resources. I have a print library containing many J-E E-J dictionaries, and some of them weigh several kilograms and are 20cm thick. I have the app versions of the same that cost in the hundreds. While larger lexicon of these are necessary for advanced translation, but despite the cost for those the interfaces are clunky. So JEDict lite is the extra handy little app.

It’s free so give it a go.

  • NEED

This dictionary is a god send. I’ve used it since I first got the IPod Touch 4gen and I’ve never had a problem; even now on my IPhone 6. As long as you can draw the kanji or get in the ball park, stroke order doesn’t matter, you’ll find the kanji you’re looking for. Additionally, the meaning, JLPT level, different readings, and the list of words the kanji is used in make completing assignments a breeze. Also, there are vocab lists separated by JLPT level.

TL;DR: Lovely app, highly recommended. Get it.

  • Regret

Crashing nonstop after updating to latest version on ios 9. It was nice...
  • IOS 11 issues

Has always been an excellent app, and has become invaluable. However, since updating to IOS 11, I can no longer access it.
  • IOS 11

This app was really good. I loved the fact that I could draw kanji to look up things. Now the app doesn’t work because my phone has iOS 11. I would give this app a 5 star rating, but now that it’s useless for iOS 11, I feel a one star rating is more appropriate. :( Please update this app.
