What Doesn't Belong? Fun Deck User Reviews

Just like the deck

Does not give feedback or reinforcers like other apps. Not very engaging. Requires adults feedback

M.S., CCC-SLP

I absolutely LOVE the availability of the Super Duper Fun Decks! It is so much easier to use an iPad vs carrying the tin cans back and forth. PLUS, lost cards are a thing of the past! As a Speech-Language Pathologist I know how to use this deck and am very familiar with it. However, the instruction card in the box should be included within this app as well for those who aren't as familiar with it. I'm sure the ratings would be 5 stars with that one small added detail. All in all it's Super Duper!! 😆

Super!

As an elementary school English as a second language teacher, I love Super Duper Fun Decks. Pictures are an indispensable tool for learning language. The pictures in this Fun Deck are a springboard for language production and comprehension. Teachers can use the images in conjunction with a sentence frame in order to structure and extend the students' responses. Sometimes I project the "card" from the iPad onto a screen and we play as a whole group. Other times I use the app to work with a smaller group of students so I can closely monitor their language production and listen to them explain their thinking. In whole group playing, student partners can confer with each other write their answers on a small white board. I award points for the correct answer AND for the partners explaining why they made the answer choice. Either way has the advantage of triggering metacognition as students have to explain their thinking. The teacher can also keep score within the app of the students' correct/incorrect responses. The colorful app keeps the students engaged and learning!

Nothing has been done yet.

Many people already told you to fix it and nothing has been done. Very disappointing

Poorly written app

This app (1) doesn't speak the words for all the objects on the screen (2) hangs on the second screen, asin I could not move to the third card....DON'T buy this app...it is a waste of money.

Please make more interactive!

I think others have said this as well, but it would be wonderful if my patients could select the appropriate picture and it not simply repeat the question. I like the opposite app because it reinforces and the child can select the appropriate answer on screen. I use this app and fun decks for my kiddos with severe expressive language difficulties so they can demonstrate receptive language skills without frustration. I feel so bad for them when they push the screen over and over and it just repeats the statement. Can you please update soon so the app can be more interactive! Thank you SuperDuper!

Nice

It's just the card deck on the iPad and I'm ok with that!

Electronic card deck

This app, like many other super duper apps, is simply the pictures from the card deck placed on the iPad. There is nothing fancy or flashy about this app, but that's ok because based off your description I feel like I knew what to expect. I like it because of the portability of carrying an app on my iPad versus the tin can. I still use the tins as well. I also like the mess free environment of using the app versus cleaning up the cards, losing cards, having the cards be a distraction for my students, etc. You do lose the ability to play games with the cards (i.e. hiding cards, pulling cards out of a bean bin, etc.), but you get the excitement from your student of getting to work on the iPad. That being said, there are ways of improving this app and really utilizing the interactive capabilities of the iPad. 1.) Providing some form of posititve reenforcement for correct responses and the ability to turn off if needed. 2.) Having a second screen for each target come on that asks, "why does the ___ not belong?" and maybe offer 2 or 3 answer choices that can be selected. 3.) The data collector can be distracting and at times defeating. Instead, maybe you could just keep track of the number of cards completed at the bottom. Then allow the student to touch the correct answer and data will be automatically collected and viewed at the end of the session. Overall, I enjoy this app for what it is and have hope for what it can be. P.S. The generic instructions "read prompts or touch screen" seems like it needs to be changed for this app because there are no words to be read on these pictures.

Could Be Improved

I like the availability of the pictures, but it would be even more effective if reinforcers were added when the correct picture is selected.
