Perfect

Simple. Useful. Accurate. Thank you.

The most underrated tool in your bag

Ignore the rules of hyperfocal distance at your peril. Whether you shoot film or digital you should be aware of the effects. This tool does a fantastic job of visualising the process and is a great aid in the field. For those who think this is a โ€œwaste of timeโ€, โ€œnot necessary for digital or modern lensesโ€.. just carry on capturing your soft images, itโ€™s your loss.

Not so great

Difference between black line distances doesn't agree with total on the bottom.

Response from developer

Ah, what you are seeing is the effect of rounding numbers for display. As such, any discrepancy can only show up in the last decimal place and will be utterly trivial in practice. Please be assured that there is no sloppiness in the calculations.

Great app

Wonderful little app. Perfect for helping me on my journey to zone focusing. I will be purchasing the paid app. The paid app lets one customize f-stops etc. thanks.

Great interface!

Very slick. Easy. One thumb navigation.

Does not work with small apertures

Nice clean interface, not very graphical BUT the results are wrong. Try closing down aperture on 200mm lens and dof decreases in this app!

My favourite

Simple, clean intuitive interface. Very quick and easy to use between shots. Love the sliding graphics.

Needs a few tweaks

I like the visual indicators and I am okay with the idea of the shrinking DoF at smaller apertures. I want a readout of the slider settings (it could be in the slider legend area), "soft" stops on the sliders for common settings, and ability to tap and directly enter numeric values.

Ph0to Ph1l

Nice idea. I like the way the sliders show the DOF but it has bugs. At small apertures, DOF collapses to zero.

Response from developer

Actually, no bugs at all. The app offers the user the option to include or exclude the effects of diffraction in the calculation of image sharpness. If you disable the diffraction option on the Settings screen, you will find that the app presents the results that you would expect.

Great app

Helped me easily compare DoF between a point shoot I was about to purchase and my current DSLR.
