  • Excellent

I found this really useful. It really improved my bass chops.
  • Nonfunctioning

This doesn't appear to work at all on the iPad 4. The little info button does work, but is useless.
  • Excellent

Very good bought all the lessons and has really helped my bass playing
  • Slightly useful...

Video doesn't work. Screen doesn't reorient (landscape) and these really aren't lessons. But I can sound it it and use it for a little practice.
  • Junk

If I could subtract stars, I would.
  • Excellent Skills Building Approach

The four free lessons are challenging and fun. I am working on all of them. Being able to change the key and tempo make the lessons adaptable and doable. The continuous looping of the lesson is a great aid to mastery. I love the extended playing with the band on the 12-bar arrangement.

The app does need some fixes (I am using an iPad2 with iOS6):
    * During continuous play the audio continues but the screen shuts down. You have to pause playing and tap the screen when it dims or you will have to restart the iPad. This is annoying.
    * The video window opens with a black window, but nothing happens. It would have been nice to watch them.
    * The cursor does not move on the 12 bar progression, like it does in the lesson tabs. A cursor would be a helpful addition.
    * There are no tabs for the turnaround in the last bar of the progressions. This would be icing on the cake.
    * There is no point of contact to ask questions or report problems which is why they are included in the review instead of offline!

The Bottom Line: this app is much more useful than any book/CD combo I currently have. I plan to purchase the extra lessons when I'm ready.

  • A great teach yourself to play app

As someone starting from scratch I found this to be a great teaching app. The fact you can adjust the tempo of the music is very helpful so you can learn at a pace that is comfortable to you.
The only thing I would say it is lacking is a simple explanation of what every thing means. I was lucky as I was able to guess what the numbers meant (frets) and that the bottom string of the picture meant the top string on the bass. Maybe there is an explanation on there somewhere, but if there is and I couldn't find it despite looking, then that could be fixed too.
But apart from that I highly recommend this app for beginners. Easy to use and adjustable to your level.
More lessons are available as an in app purchase, but they are all reasonably priced and can be bought as a package or as individual lessons.
Thank you for making this app!
