Description of Phonology

Phonology lets you give more Speech Therapy for children with unintelligible speech! This app is an auditory discrimination activity that helps children hear the difference between words like “stop” and “top” and say words like “cap” and “spoon”. Colorful drawings to hold children’s interest as they practice their good speech. The app is based on the Hodson model of Phonological Processing. It is appropriate for children ages 3-5 with impaired speech intelligibility. A clear speech model is presented for the child to imitate and they can record and play back their own speech. The clinician can choose from three scoring methods. 1. Score each response as correct, distorted or incorrect. 2. Score responses as correct, distorted, substituted, or omitted. 3. Score productions based on whether they are spontaneously correct/incorrect or imitatively correct/incorrect. This app is based on the Word Practice game from LocuTour’s Phonology I CD.

    Things I like:
    - great at providing a model at word, phrase, sentence level. I also REALLY like how you can slow the production of the sound with long and/or short pauses.
    -good pictures

    Things I don't like:
    - its very complicated to switch between users. In fact, I have yet to figure out how to collect data for different kids. There should be a profile for each kid that appears on a home screen. That way you can choose which child and their data automatically saves and populates.
    - the directions indicate I can chose different users by going into the "option" section. But there is no option section.

Overall- it has potential to be a good app. Right now it's not worth the price. I'm hoping updates will make it user friendly. But right now I'm disappointed.
