  • Not what I expected

This app is more like drills than an actual learning course. There are no explanations of grammar just repetitive mini quizzes. It would be useful as quick tests on information learned elsewhere, in a language course or textbook. It's usefulness for learning Old English is extremely limited. I had expected a basic language course with some instruction in grammar and pronunciation. It is not much of a value for the cost.

  • Really Great App

This app functions very well. Never crashes. Great for learning OE paradigms and vocabulary.
    Thankful for these apps!!!!
    Get this one!!!!
  • Fantastic

Not only is this the best Old English app I've found--it's also one of the best language apps out there. Definitely worth it--quizzes you on grammar and vocabulary (even vocabulary specific to Beowulf!). I cannot recommend this (and the other LP apps) enough. Thank you.
  • Highly effective

Really great app for what is obviously a fringe language - comparatively at least. A great modern technology tool to liven up learning a language which is served by some very dry and methodical approaches. If you know any students of old English, or anyone simply wishing to expand their list of languages, tell then to buy this extremely reasonably-priced app.

  • Extremely useful

Really appreciate whomever made this app. It's obviously meets quite a niche need, but this makes it all the more valuable. It's a simple design, but works really well and has a surprisingly large vocabulary to keep you busy. I use a new level every day to improve my vocabulary. Highly recommend this app to any medieval lit students as an easy way into the language.

  • Great app

This app is exactly what I was looking for to help me with a basic understanding of old english. You won't learn the language from this app but it serves as another source to help you learn about the language.
  • OK, but needs a revision

I like the concept very much. Good grammar review. A problem is that the vocabulary questions are too few in number for such an app. Each vocabulary section tests about three or four words per level, asking the user to translate from OE to ModE, then it tests the exact same words from ModE to OE. An option in which one could continue to the next level without having to click back and insert the desired level would be nifty. If the author produces an update with these things in mind, I would be pleased and might submit a revised review.

  • Excellent Tool

This app is a great way to build vocabulary and reinforce inflections and conjugations.
  • Good!

Super helpful for the class I'm taking. Pronounciation (preferably audio) would help.
  • Excellent for how it bills itself.

This app tells you exactly what it will do for you. No, it *won't* make you proficient in the Old English language. That would likely take years of dedicated study (as it has for my study of Latin). However, one key component of learning any new language is the drudgery of rote memorization that comes of vocabulary building. In the case of an inflected language such as Old English, there is also the intimidating work of conjugation drills and noun declension paradigms. That's where this cute little package really shines. It automates and expedites the rote process, and it does so via "temporal scavenging;" by building the process inside time already otherwise committed. Waiting for a pickup order at your local restaurant? Practice a few strong verbs while you're at it. Standing outside the store, while your significant other is finishing an errand? Pull out your touch screen device and try seeing if you can remember what "cynng" or "swiþe" means. [NOTE: never use while driving; be safe!] Immediate response, gentle correction and endless repetition ensure you'll eventually get it all and probably be seeing the thorn symbol in your sleep. Cheap, easy, exactly what it promises. If you're a language enthusiast, especially for archaic or historical languages, you can't go wrong!
