Brilliant

This is a brilliant way to make writing fun for kids. Our son’s writing is hugely improved and he absolutely loved it. Best writing app we have tried by far.

great app

writing magic letters really has helped my kids to learn to write letters. the story is engaging and keeps the kids interested. Its a big app and great value for Β£1.49

This would be great app except that I can't find a way to go back to the beginning. I've tried it out for grandson who would love it BUT each time I go back to the home page, it says Continue. I don't want to continue. I want to go back to Start.

Any ideas?

Flawed realisation

I bought this for my daughter who has a tendency to write letters starting in the wrong place and going in the wrong direction. While this program helps her to start in the right place, it doesn't seem to care what happens after that. In the case of an "O" for example you can write it clockwise or anticlockwise. See how many ways you can write an "a". This is not helpful at all and, as a programmer, not hard to fix. Needs to be improved before I could recommend it for this reason alone. On other points, the "voice talent" is anything but, being very dull and quite annoying. The "story" is weak and my kids were not at all inspired! A waste of money, however little it cost!

Writing can be fun too!

A bit quirky but definitely good fun. I like the wizard story and the 'letter writing' adventures around the castle. Love this App, Surely its a classic.

Dross.

The narrators voice is infuriatingly dull and slightly regional English accent, although I can't quite tell exactly where she's from. The story is read in a dreary, dull, drudging kind of way, slow and plodding in that monotone voice... we were getting tired of it before we even reached the first challenge.

But the writing part of the game is frustrating too; it demands more accuracy than my 5 year old or I could manage. There were only so many times we could bear to hear that dreary voice telling us "that's not quite right" before we were ready to throw the device across the room. After a few set backs my son started cheating; a spot or a line to get past the "that's not right" until the app offers the option "do you want me to do it for you?" after the 3rd attempt. I couldn't blame him, it's really very unforgiving and not at all encouraging.

In all honesty I resent having paid for it.

Unique and entertaining way to learn ABCs

This is a very engaging and educational way for children to learn the letters of the alphabet. Children practice tracing letters and then unlock "spells" which they use to solve problems as they move around the castle and it's grounds. It is all narrated so kids don't have to be able to read to play. The game aspect is never the same twice and my students stay involved for a long time. There are a few glitches such as that the tracing can be too sensitive and hard for kids to get right, but the developer is extremely responsive and has an update coming out soon. Highly recommended.

Very frustrating

In principle this is a good app, but it is so frustrating.
The woman's voice very quickly got on my nerves!
As for tracing the letters, unless your spot on all I got was "that's not quite right..." Thought it was my fat fingers, so used a stylus, even then not very good.
So, my 3.5 year old who's really learning quickly but struggles to support a pen for a long period found this app very frustrating.

Overall not too bad, but use it in conjunction with other apps.

Learn to write

The app helps kids learn to write by showing how to write a letter then getting them to try themselves by using their finger on the touch screen and tracing the letter, success rewards them with a spell. The narrator reads the on screen text as well, the illustration style is fun bright and attractive. When letters have been learnt they are added to a spell book and the spells can be cast to help with tasks around the game world. There are multiple location to visit from a home screen where different spells can be used. My only criticism would be the voiceovers seem to be only recorded by a single female narrator, it would be nice for different voices to be used for the different characters in the game, great app though and the kids will have lots of fun learning whilst playing the game.
