Was awesome.. but now it’s incorrect

Absolutely love this app, I could put a icon on my home screen, so it could show me the levels without me having to actually go into the app and look every time. I was telling a friend about it and had them download it, and it was then that we realized the data is not the same as what the USGS site displays. i’ve gone back to using the old app I used to use, hopefully at some point you guys can get it straightened out.

Rivercast gets its raw data from NOAA (National Weather Service) for both observations and forecasts. Regarding stage height (ft), USGS and NOAA should always report the same values for locations. Regarding flow volume (cfs), it is an estimated value and NOAA and USGS usually calculate the same numbers. But there are instances where USGS and NOAA will estimate flow volume slightly differently, but the difference is usually negligible. If anyone is seeing differences between what Rivercast reports and data from elsewhere, please contact us directly and we will look into and see what is going on.

Crazy!!!!

Our weather patterns have become extreme. The occurrence of heavy rain has become increasingly common. As such, I rely heavily on this app to better understand the Mississippi River levels. Our property is on the river bank and prone to flooding. The 7 day forecast of river levels helps me to prepare to protect my property. Unfortunately, the River will be over flood stage again this week. I was able to move our possessions out of the basement over the weekend and minimize the damage. Great app!!!

Best App

Probably the best app I’ve ever used. The app preforms how is needed and is very helpful. The river predictions and depths are used for wildlife management and conservation so these numbers help us prepare for floods, safety issues and know when water levels are getting too low for pumps. The app always works and seems to be managed very well by the inventor.

Not Worth the Price

This app is basically highway robbery trying to charge 9$ a year for access to what is publicly available and free data. Do yourself a favor and just go to NOAA website directly through Safari and look up the waterway or dam you wish to get water level readings from and then just save that page as a bookmark to your Home Screen on your phone for future quick lookups. The data is 100% free and publicly available, and the NOAA website will show you graphs and future water level timelines in excess of a week out for FREE. Don’t let this app sucker you into paying extra each year to get more than 30 hours of data. The NOAA website itself is actually more robust and easier to read than this app, with more granular control over the FREE data available.

Response from developer

Rivercast is free for anyone to try. In fact, thousands of users have found the Free version adequate for their needs have stuck with it - which we are fine with! Rivercast offers interactive graphs, custom levels on graphs, push notifications for river levels, favorites lists, widgets, and more that are not available on websites.  1000’s of hours and many years of work have been put into building a quality app with a UI designed specifically for iOS & iPhones that most users find easier and prefer.

Great app

The app works off the closest data collection points. We use it all the time to monitor creek levels due to our home being near a creek that floods from time to time. You can set different water levels within the app to know what’s affected when water levels are rising. Super cool app. Very grateful for this!

Best fishing river gauge app out there !

Awesome app. Allows you to create notes and graphs for specific river levels. Very helpful for remembering how much or how little water is needed to fish somewhere.

Eloquent interface

A stylistically beautiful application helpful in clarifying river dynamics, including
hurricane Ian’s influence on the St Johns River.
Immediately intuitive, articulately revealing, and just a great companion to understanding river conditions.
Thank you from Florida

Very pleased

We live in the country on a river and we only had a website to get updates and they took forever half the time to update it so far this is working great!

Have to pay for each device?

I paid for premium and it will only allow me to save more than one favorite on one device. I have multiple favorites saved on my iPhone and when it try to do the same on other devices it tells me I must pay for another subscription.

If this is the way this app is suppose to work it is a ripoff.

Rivercast

This is a good app to watch the flood stage for our river property which is over an hour from where we live. What would make this app great is if there was a notification for when the water was near flood stage, maybe 5-8 feet below so we knew to keep a close eye on it. If we could opt to receive a text notification if this occurred it would be fantastic! Overall I am satisfied with the app.
