Description of myIseismo

This is simple app with a serious side. It can be mesmerising to watch if your are travelling by train or bus and it shows just how sensitive the accelerometer device is. If you are checking for vibrations this can be very useful, detecting the smallest movement. In developing the graph used by this application we used the accelerometers to supply data and found the results useful and entertaining so we thought we would let everyone play with it. And here is the result ! The app supports a delta mode plus a raw mode and has two help pages, one for delta mode and one for raw mode. It can be configured for thick or thin traces and each axis can be enabled or disabled. The graph supports to modes, pen chart mode and a more traditional oscilloscope mode. You can also Print or Email an image of the trace, and even email the data itself, in an xml format (annotated xml file format available on request ). The application has a trace viewer page where you can examine the trace in detail, switching on and off individual axis traces by accessing a menu using a swipe up gesture plus zooming in and out or scrolling through the trace. Traces can be saved from the main screen by accessing additional menu options using a swipe up gesture. The traces are tagged with the time and location when they were saved. All the information is contained in the data file in xml format. Gain and sample rate is also included. Have fun and if you want more features please let us know.

  • Fantastic app

I downloaded the App as a joke and now I find myself getting on it unironically multiple times a day!
  • Please add this feature

This is a nice app but what it really needs is the ability to utilize the iPhone accelerometer to detect earthquakes and automatically share that data to the cloud and/or the USGS.

Only when enough similar readings are detected from a certain region within a narrow timeframe would the data be considered legitimate and then be pushed back out to the map for all users to view.

The app could also be active only at certain times of the day/night that the user defines. As well as only be active when connected to pre-defined wifi networks. Such as Home or work.

Another option would be to only take accelerometer reading when it is plugged into power (such as when on your night stand or connected to a computer USB).

The app could also use the iPhone GPS to disable sensor reading when moving. As well as only record seismic data when the app detects the iPhone is laying flat on its back.

Another option would be to disable the seismic sensor data output when a face is detected with the front facing camera.

Requiring the app to be running in the foreground would also further prevent false readings.

This could easily, quickly, and cheaply create a huge network of seismographs around the world.
  • Vibration measure

Awesome app!!! Works perfectly and extremely sensitive. Great for measuring the slightest vibration. The only thing that could be added to make it better (hard to do) is the ability to send the images through a text message.... I really wanted to show my friends how sweet the app was and texts are easier than e-mail!
