With the new release 2.7 of the DWD FlugWetter app, cross sections are now available. It is now possible to display a cross section for a self-defined flight route in Europe in the app. The route can be selected individually by selecting the respective departure/destination aerodromes and up to two additional waypoints. You can choose between three different flight route types: IFR, VFR or gliding. Important or recurring flight routes can also be saved in the Favourites section.

With the new release of the DWD FlugWetter app, the forecast period of the ICON-EU WAWFOR numerical forecasts (World Aviation Weather Forecast) has been extended from +48h to +78h. In addition, new thermal forecasts have been added to the ICON-EU WAWFOR dataset. The new thermal forecasts provide information on the following parameters: • Lifting ratio (hourly) • Potential flight distance PFD (hourly) • Potential flight distance PFD (daily sum) • Thermal height (height of top of dry convection, hourly) Meteograms are also new in the DWD FlugWetter app. It is now possible to select a meteogram for a desired aerodrome in Europe. You can choose between three different meteogram types: IFR, VFR or gliding. Of course, a meteogram is also available for the selected home airport and for each favourite.

With the new release 2.5, the radar data of the Germany radar composite are available in the DWD FlugWetter app. It is now possible to switch between the current radar data of the Germany radar composite and the Europe radar composite in the app. The radar data of the Germany radar composite are based on the precipitation scans of the DWD radar sites. The Germany radar composite product also records small-scale maxima and is updated every five minutes. In addition, the Germany radar composite provides a displacement prediction for a forecast period of up to +2 hours. The displacement prediction is also available for the entire forecast period in five-minute time steps. The different precipitation phases (rain, sleet, snow, hail) are displayed to match the Germany Radar composite.

The Deutscher Wetterdienst is expanding the forecast data in the DWD FlugWetter app: On November 23, 2022, additional WAWFOR (World Aviation Weather Forecast) data will be introduced with the 06 UTC model run. Additional altitude levels in 1000 feet steps will then be available in the app for the parameters wind, temperature, icing and turbulence. In addition, minor errors have been eliminated in the new version 2.4.0

The DWD FlugWetter-App Version 2.3 offers the following new functions: Visualization of WAWFOR model forecasts (World Aviation Weather Forecast) for area Europe. The WAWFOR is a digital aeronautical dataset specifically for the purposes of aviation. The WAWFOR data are based on the DWD forecast model ICON-EU and are available for a forecast time range up to +48 hours, the time resolution is one hour. The following parameters are available in map display: • Significant weather • Cloud cover • Surface pressure • Surface wind and gusts • Precipitation • Temperature (surface and upper levels) • Geopotential (upper levels) • Upper wind (upper levels) • ADWICE icing information (upper levels) • Turbulence (upper levels) • Convection (horizontal and vertical dimension)
