I was raised in a fundamentalist-lite context, so there was little to no art kept in the home and most of what we did have was quaint, uninspiring, watered-down filler material. The importance of Christian art has grown alongside my faith and this app helps to bridge the gap between its newfound relevance in daily prayer and the commonly unthinking daily usage of a cell phone that tends to dictate modern life… Where previously a conscious effort would be required in order to keep an inspiring religious image in view through my phone screen, I’m now able to favorite a number of quality images (each with a brief info sheet included), download those into a photo album, then easily toggle through them so as to keep my background pages enlivened by an ongoing, beautiful Christian witness. It’s been nothing short of transformative.
Additionally, the images are all free of obstructing watermarks, cleared for usage through the app and actually “vetted” by the developers (both for quality and technological compatibility) in a way that makes everything uniform where it ought to be uniform and unique where it ought to be unique. So this is where supporting them (by subscription and word of mouth) is really important; more subscriptions could eventually lead to commissioned artwork and some modern saints (along with others who have arguably either been insufficiently or inadequately represented through the years) might be able to be included over time! So share, support by subscription and put it all to good use as you’re able to do so. God bless.
