Description of MIDI Pro

MIDI Pro provides practice opportunities and composition ideas. The app allows you to selectively mix percussion and melody tracks so you can play along with your preferred instrument. The generated MIDI sequences are a starting point for human composers to build upon and add more complex layers of instrumentation. A mixture of determinism and randomness is used to construct MIDI sequences that can be tailored to individual preferences.  The sequences are seeded with the selected rhythm, notes are are added using the selected key, scale and chord progression.   The outcome is a set of tracks that include the percussion plus 4 melody tracks that can be individually adjusted. With the paid version you can save midi files for reuse and or to import them into your favorite DAW.

Reviews of MIDI Pro

  • Good start to great idea for practice app

I paid for the full version of this app because I want to support this developer.

I tried using this app primary to help generate backing parts to practice soloing and accompanying with my primary instruments. The user interface is very simplistic but that doesn’t bother me as much as there’s little guidance to figure out how to use the thing. Pros: - lots of flexibility - many built in progressions - sound fonts library can be exchanged Cons: - synthesized melody and parts are way too busy to be used as backing and often interfere with each other harmonically; I end up muting half of the tracks - acoustic guitar backing parts could strum rhythms - track levels cannot be muted or level adjusted during playback - the animated character is cute but wasted ui space.

Update: Ended up not using this app, deleting it; Chordbot ends being more practical for my needs and at a much lower price tag. Hope you put my $15 to good use!

    Developer Response

We appreciate the feedback. Working on new release and better guidance on the product page. The product support page into were you can ask questions is on the App Store. In the future we will provide that contact information inside the app so that a contact method is easier to find. Regards

I would have reached out to the developer directly but it looks like a review is the only way to provide feedback at the moment.
