Disappointing — when it worked 🙁
So the developer response, 10 months later, is basically to blame me for using their app on a phone that’s not powerful enough - without putting that requirement in the “Works on this iPhone” section here.
It still says Requires iOS 15 and iPhone SE 1st Gen.

We're sorry to hear that you experienced issues with the Bug Hunt app. Due to the nature of the AR technology the device used does need to be above a certain specification. It has been optimised for Apple officially supported devices running iOS 16 and later (see iPhone models compatible with iOS 16 – Apple Support (UK). However the app should still work on devices from iPhone 8 and iPad 2017 onwards as long as they are running iOS 15 or above. Lack of phone memory can also affect the performance of the app. We are committed to improving our app and ensuring it works smoothly for everyone. Since this trail completed last summer and we have made some fixes and tweaks to enhance and optimise the app. We've also added a little demo that can tried when you're not at a Trail Location. Hopefully next time you use it will be even better!
