Reviews of Bara tala

  • Fun to use and useful for learning!

Ég elska að læra íslensku með bara tala!
I have been using bara tala for a few days now. I have a few other apps for Icelandic as well, and I can say this one is a good combination of learning vocabulary as well as learning sentence structure. The vocab is learned through image as well as just auditory, and then spelling the word. This repetition really helps. Sometimes apps focus too much on just looking at the word which leaves you lacking when you hear people speaking.
Each chapter has a theme, and starts with some vocab, then you move to sentences and questions. It really helps seeing the words used in a sentence because you get to understand how the words function together and the way sentences are structured, different from how you would phrase things in English. Especially for chapters like Kaffihús or Ísbuð you get to hear sentences that are what you would hear in real life, ordering coffee in a shop.
There is microphone input to the app so it can analyze if your pronunciation is good or way off haha.
I also like that the entire app is in Icelandic, the menu and your profile page with stats for time spent learning, etc, so it is immersive that way.
It makes it fun and kind of addicting to learn!
