Reviews of Resident Evil Village

  • Incredible

I’m amazed at what I’m seeing. I get great performance with lighting settings maxed. I turned metal fx off and graphics and textures between medium or high .5. Get a constant 30fps and the experience with a controller is wonderful. Yes there are haptics that seem similar to ps4. There’s an insane amount of settings, it’s like playing the pc version. I run the game at 720 and find that with metal fx off and the other settings that the experience is very similar to console. It feel’s somewhere between ps4 and ps5 but at 30 fps.

You can hit higher fps but at significant loss to quality. I think the trade off is definitely worth it and having played this game in psvr2 I think that iPhone 15 pro would be a solid way to experience it the first time. That oled and hdr goes a long way.
  • Easy Performance Fix

For those experiencing slowdowns on A17 Pro devices, the solution is to disable MetalFX upscaling and instead use interlaced scaling and a 1.1 resolution render.

First, and most important, this will mostly eliminate the seemingly random drops to 15-20fps that happens as you traverse around the game world. This is likely because MetalFX is heavily taxing the CPU, which causes the CPU to choke when loading new data as you walk around, resulting in large frame drops.

Second, the game looks much sharper, though there is a little bit of aliasing and pixelation when moving about. Furthermore, with interlaced rendering, the HDR seems to look much better. MetalFX causes the black levels to appear more gray and washed out.

There are still some minor frame drops on my iPhone 15 Pro but it’s largely 30fps with nice image quality and manageable thermal levels.
  • Almost Perfect Game!

The game it's self is really good, but if you don't know what your doing graphics wise, the game will crash. I have a iPad Pro 4th generation, with the M2 Chip and I wanted to test the limits, I put the settings at max for everything to test the M2 capabilities. It held the game really well at 120 Hertz refresh rate, but then 5 minutes in, the game reset the entire iPad. I would recommend adding a limiter to the setting menu, something like “based on your device capabilities, it would be best to put these settings for the best performance” and etc. and maybe add a ignore option for people to have their fun with the settings, otherwise you’ll be needing to go through each settings to see what the max is while the game runs smoothly. The game is awesome, the M series chip is truly powerful, but I think this game could run better on a MacBook M series chip. Something like the MacBook Pro with a M3 Max chip. But anyways, don’t set your settings too high or it might crash your entire iPad or iPhone 15 pro with the A17 Pro chip. Either way I’m still very impressed with how both chips handles the game at such high settings. The game is very good, and the gameplay is very well done even if it’s not at the max settings. Some adjustments is required to the game settings wise with performance, but story wise and device capabilities, I’m super impressed! I would recommend this game to my friends on both a desktop computer and IOS/iPadOS.
