Shockingly bad

Having been involved with rugby union for 50 years, I have yet to find a management game that is on par with FM series. I though perhaps this is the one.
I dont understand how the IOS developer portal lets through this kind of low standard buggy mess. So many facets of this app, simply do not work, you just sit and get stuck, no feedback, no error checking mechanisms.
If you guys are serious about rugby please do not insult us by telling us you have the game, when it’s simply untrue.

Buggy and basic

There’s a gap in the market for a good game like this, but this game is a long way off at the moment. Two quite simple fixes would make the game much more replayable: Player progression: As far as I can tell, player stats never change which produces absurd results and means there is zero value in young players with lower ratings because they will never grow. This is a really core, basic, essential feature that is essential to a management game and missing here. Fitness bug: Something wrong with the fitness where players lose points of fitness while you’re selecting a team. I.e someone has 95% fitness so you swap them to your starting 15 then all of a sudden they only have 75% fitness. Really annoying. There are many many other things which could be done to improve the game but these are the two most urgent which are currently making the game basically unplayable.

Addictive but some features need fixing

I got addicted to this game really quickly however there is a few things that need fixing. A couple of times I have been caught out by not having available players to make a full team . You should be able to put any players on the bench. I had a full team with plenty of players however I had 2 players go injured and I couldn’t replace them on the bench and it pretty much stops you from going any further . You should also get money for winning the leagues and it was annoying seeing i didn’t after I won .

Very promising but broken

On paper, this game is very very good. I’m a massive football manager fan and a rugby fan so this ticks all the boxes. However there are a few issues.

1.) game breaking bug. I currently cannot get past the second league game of the season. It loads in and just shows home and away but nothing ever happens (I’m trying to manage the ospreys).

2.) squad numbers, for some reason replacement hookers are 17 when they should be number 16.

3.) transfers - it would be great to have feedback as to why a transfer offer was rejected. Is the club just unwilling to sell the player, did the player not want to join, or is it just too low an offer.

There’s also a lot of scope to improve the tactics page and allow for in-game adjustments based on the scoreline etc.

This game could easily be a 5* review with a few tweaks and I would’ve scored 3 or 4 if it wasn’t for a bug which currently makes it unplayable even though I’ve spent £5 on unlocking the full match view.

Happy to discuss with any devs in more detail if it’ll help as I really think you’re onto a winner here and have found a great gap in the market!

Great - Except A Couple Things

I love this game and think that it is great. Honestly always wanted a Rugby Manager as there is already F1 Manager & Football Manager. I love taking control of my favourite team (Harlequins) and it is a great game.

If there were any negatives to pick out, it would be that players that play for a teams Starting XI or Bench are incredibly expensive to sign. Also, it is annoying that you have to pay for the full match but I understand as you have to make profit. This however makes the tactics pretty useless if you don’t have the full version. Also, I think that scouting is a pretty useless feature as I can’t ever seem to get anyone even worthy to go on the bench. A final thing is that players fitness decreases so much, which is weird because for an English team, they only have to play 18-25 games a season and so they should be well rested.

I’m only picking on the negatives though so keep up the good work and I can’t wait to see how this game progresses.

When will it be fixed?!?!

many issues: - game occasionally freezes and have to delete and re download and re start - For some reason Bordeaux doesn’t allow you to sell players so can’t use them - needs more realism with results - needs to add stats such as try scored in a season, kicks, tackles etc - needs to add internationals where players r unavailable during six nations etc - potential add where we can use the national teams - allow some players to go as free agents if they’re unsigned then it doesn’t cost u all ur budget to sign them as another team - allow young players to progress their rating - old players regress their rating - old players need to eventually retire game - number 17 on bench should be prop and number 16 hooker instead the game is 17 hooker 16 prop simple things like this would be better
could be so good needs a lot of work to achieve the so good level

Response from developer

Hi, the bugs are being fixed and update will be pushed this week. In terms of NZ, Aus and Japan. This would be a feature in future games as we need to confirm the rights and other matters, thank you for your feedback.

Bugged

Bought game as was enjoying free version. Needs bit of work generally as bit repetitive. Does not always follow rugby law. Would be better if more variety of gameplay. Fast players are fast. Strong forwards don't seem to make so much difference in rucks, scrums and mauls. I've never lost a scrum or line out.

Anyway reason for low score is after nearly 2 seasons game has bugged and cannot continue, it's stuck on wasps vs saracens. Wasps are not in the game and I chose Gloucester to play.

Shame but requested money back

Unable to progress or play

Few glitches with game, you transfer players out when the transfer window is open and also make offers to buy players for that position, I’ve transferred a player out as a result if you don’t have enough players to play a friendly you can’t progress to the following week therefore I have to finish the game, also I had 5 props two got injured so two replaced them, and one went on the bench the subs bench needed two props but I didn’t have them so I had to finish and delete the season halfway through,
It’s a shame because it had the potential to being a really good little game.

Needs more depth

Gets a bit dull after a season or two.

I love the fact that I can play my team and take them through a season however….

Young players do not improve with age or game time.
Old players do not degrade with age
Wage demands do not go up and down to reflect this.
Players seem to play on forever and not retire.

There is now way to know what salary might tempt a player to move to your team.

Academy players do not come through and supplement your squad.

There seems to be no way to sign players who are about to go out of contract. This means you may well be in a position (I was) whereby you have to sell players to afford the buyout. You also may have to sell players first and then end up with a depleted squad because you cannot sign replacements in the time allocated.

Player scores at the end of a match is very 1 dimensional. Why did my star fly half only score 7.5? Are there stats behind this score?

Not quite there … yet

I’m a big football manager fan and been waiting for a rugby version to come out so was very excited to see this game. I tried the free version a bit to see what it is like with not much gameplay involved. Scouting doesn’t prove different results and you can’t work out if you are getting anyone special with any potential. The games were very basic, not much excitement so I purchased the paid version. Where the gameplay is confusing. You move backwards when you are attacking, kickoffs are weird, with some being correct (receiving after scoring points) and some not (kicking off after scoring). I actually feel like this made the gameplay more frustrating. When you simmed the games your players all receive 5 if you lose or 7 if you win. There’s no variation.

All that said. There is a load of potential to get it right and have an amazing game. The things I love about football manager is the training of players, scouting and finding the future players (academies etc), team building which seems like a strength of this game having real players with fairly accurate skill level. I would love to see scouting improved. Add in an attribute for player potential to see if you should actually sign them or not. Then a bit for training players to improve them.

I hope in the future it is a great game that takes up all my time which football manager currently does 😂😀
