- Added wind effect (experimental). You can adjust wind direction and force in the settings menu ("Restart / Change ship"). The wind generates a turning moment towards it and a displacement force away from it. Both of these effects are influenced by the shape of the ship's superstructure. - Increased UI buttons sensitivity for improved usability on small screens

- Better collision detection - Improvements to NPC ships: more NPC ships + improved NPC autopilots. They will run down the river sticking to their SB side as much as possible. You can switch the NPC ships on or off from the Settings/Ships menu. - Performance improvements for weaker devices

- Added a large cruise ship. It's a big vessel but very manoeuvrable thanks to twin props and a powerful bow thruster - You can now change the sky lighting to dawn, day or dusk. It's in the settings under "Graphics" - Changed the damage system so that now a ship will sink only after a certain amount of damage was done. On the top right the amount of damage (if any) is shown in $

Description of Ship Maneuvering Simulator

This simulator will give you a realistic experience of what it's like to handle a large ship. It includes some features which often seem to be missing in other simulators: - Astern effect of the propeller - Drift during turn - Pivot point movement - Rudder effectiveness based on propeller flow and ship's own velocity - Bow thruster effectiveness influenced by ship's velocity For the moment there are three ships (cargo ship, supply ship and battle ship). In the future more may be added. The game is played in a sandbox style with a sea, river and port environment and customisable current. I plan to also add wind effect. The simulation is based on the mathematical hydrodynamic MMG model which is also used in professional ship handling and mooring simulators.

Reviews of Ship Maneuvering Simulator

  • This is nice! Here’s a few suggestions for improvement!

So, as someone who knows how ships move around, I can say this is very accurate to that. However, there are some hydrodynamics that aren’t in yet or things for fixing. Without any further adue, let me tell you:

    1. NPC ships sinking and piling up from hitting a sunken ship: One time I was casually trying to maneuver into port when I noticed that a cruise ship that was vertical had a friend, then right after I saw a bulk carrier hit the cruise ship and sink, and then I assume the piling continued because when I checked on it again, it had claimed, give or take, 3 vessels.

    2. Forces when sailing towards land: you see, there is a thing that happens in the real world where if a ship tries to hit for example, a wall from it’s side, because of all the water there the ship will either be slowed or stopped from hitting the wall.

    3. Map geometry and scenery: I’ve noticed that the map is sorta…bland. For example, land needs a few trees and structures, under the water there should be some things like maybe rocks at the bottom, and the geometry of ports looks like some research base or just an empty lot. That’s sorta strange.

4 (Last suggestion, thank you for reading all of this). Collisions, Effects, and new ships:
Let’s start of with effects. There should be some propeller wash from the bow thrusters, and there should be the effect of water hitting the bow, and now here’s collision + effect, there should be the effect of metal grinding. Collisions are slightly bland. You hit something, yet you don’t actually sink normally; you sink flat. It would also be nice for sunken ships, especially NPC ships, to despawn after a bit. New ships, there should be a mix of steamers and smaller boats, for example maybe a yacht or the “Nomadic”, or maybe even a fishing trawler. But not like, small small, just smaller in comparison.

That is all, thank you for reading and I’ll look up to seeing these if you think some of these are good ideas!
  • Add the titanic
