This is supposed to be an emulation of the old (1981?) SoundMaster Memory Rhythm SR-88. The original had only four sounds. This app adds an extra hi-hat and numerous other functions like basic delay and reverb. But it's badly designed: the graphics are really low res, the menu design is bad, and some of the new functions are mystifying. For instance, there's a button to randomise all the beats and another dice button to randomise all the sounds, filters and effects. There's a reason the original hardware didn't have this: it doesn't make any sense. The whole point of drums/drum machines is to lock in the rhythm that forms the backbone of the song. Randomising the snare, cymbals etc is hopeless.
Add the fact that this app only has 32 steps and no ability to string patterns together to make a song and you're left with very limited scope. And, as always with AudioThing they've spent no time at all on the "manual"; it's just a screenshot with a list of the buttons plus instructions on how to unzip and install the app on Windows and Mac - with a few spelling mistakes, as usual.
