Reviews of WTA Trailblazer

  • Very Hard to Read!

WTA is an excellent organization, and the information that they have available to us is second to none. My problem with this app is the use of a very light gray font on an equally pale background, which makes it extremely difficult to read for anybody who’s in the slightest amount of sun. Also, none of the text can be resized or zoomed in on, so anybody who would otherwise need reading glasses or who are in harsh light conditions would be out of luck.
Thankfully, all of the same information is available on the web in a readable font on webpages that you can zoom in and out of for better look at certain pieces of text. BUT, once I downloaded the app, my phone would no longer allow me to look at the webpage itself, automatically redirecting me to the app, where nothing is legible. So unfortunately, I had to delete the app in order to be able to look up trail information. Which I don’t think is the point.
  • Missing Trail Maps

I love this app and the last upgrade is mostly all positive except that now most of the trails I select do not have an actual trail map. When you go to the map under location and click on it, most times it just shows the trailhead where before it shows the map of the trail.

For example, when you open Gold Creek Pond map it shows only a mark for the trail head. However, Golden Gate Loop actually brings up the trail map. I have screenshots of both.

I would love this error to be fixed because I rely heavily on this app and it tends to be more accurate that AllTrails. A great app other than this issue!
  • Go-to source for all WA hikes

WTA is my first step, go-to source to research all hikes in WA. The app has most of the features of the web site. Easy to search, comprehensive list of hikes with great hike descriptions, recent trip reports, often with photos, great trail head directions, and road conditions make this an invaluable tool. I pair it with Gaia (another great app) for downloaded and/or printed maps and GPS functionality.
