A Detailed & Honest Review - Truthly Has Insane Potential
You should download this app and it’s worth paying for the yearly subscription. That is the headline of this review. I’ll get into some picky details and ways I think the app could be better, but it is completely worth the download.
This is the ultimate companion app for daily prayer and learning more about your faith. I use this when I read scripture and have a question about how a passage fits into Catholic teaching. I use it to answer questions from my coworkers. I use it to deepen my faith.
What is good:
This is the only app I know of that offers detailed responses to questions about Catholic teaching and doctrine.
I have yet to be disappointed with a response. I have queried the tool for hyper specific questions and broad overachieving concepts and it has handled both with ease. One of my favorite queries is to ask for Catholic trivia facts from different aspects of the faith. I have learned a ton!
The app does a great job of sticking directly with what the church teaches without taking sides. It doesn’t criticize the Pope or offer anything that might be the creator’s own agenda or opinion. In todays church climate, this is incredibly refreshing.
The app will offer citations from church documents, the catechism, writings from the saints, and the Bible.
I have asked for scripture recommendations on certain topics or to answer questions I might have. These have all been very impressive.
The daily inspiration section is really good! It draws from Catholic theologians and philosophers to offer a small topic for reflection.
What could be better:
Providing access to the church documents jn a library format. While you can get the citations easily, sometimes it’s nice to read the full context or simply familiarize yourself with what the church teaches.
More up to date information. As of writing this Truthly has information accurate up to October 2023. I would love to be able to ask for summaries on a recent letter from Pope Francis for example.
It would be nice to load personal context which could be referenced to serve up more curated responses. For example, I am a young, married, catholic man with a newborn baby. Aspects of the faith touching on fatherhood and being a good husband would be fantastic!
User Interface Recommendations:
Loading the app should load a new chat rather than present the old thread. The older threads could still be accessed but most of the time I have a new unrelated question.
The responses load quickly which is good however, it is irritating that I have to wait for the whole response to load before I can begin reading from the top. Especially with a long response. The screen scrolls as the response is generated. You can’t pause the scroll or begin to process the responses until the whole thing is done.
Dark mode would be great.
Being able to use the microphone to offer a prompt would be awesome. More specifically, if you could tap the screen to start the voice prompt and tap again to indicate your thought had been finished. Using the microphone on apps that are supposed to detect when you are done speaking never works well. Especially on an app like this where the prompts might be complex or need to be processed out loud.

I love this app! It helps me to talk to others about my faith. I can ask any question and I get all the answers in one place and it ends with a reflection. I love how the daily reflection is quick but very informative. I can’t wait for the future updates to see how they make this app even better. Thank you Truthly!!!

This App is absolutely amazing
Truthly is a wonderful resource for anyone interested in a deeper understanding of the Catholic faith. I love the lessons especially the auditory option as that is my main learning method and it lends itself well to on the go situations or any time life gets busy or hectic I can still connect with the spiritual lesson for the day. The depth of knowledge available on this app is awesome, in addition to the accessibility. I’m so glad there’s a resource like this available!
