We have identified some issues in the 3.01 firmware when some users are broadcasting Bluetooth and are working on a fix. We are also working hard to release a new app in the next couple months and the new firmware will release with the new app, while we phase out this app. The 3.01 firmware upgrade has been removed from this app at this time.

  • Rhythm+ app for firmware update to 3.01

Review update 5/2018: search for and get the all new scosche rhythm sync app. The new app includes a firmware 3.40 update that seems to have fixed all the problems this app created with 3.01 firmware.

    Prior to 5/2018 review(s):
App Version 3 review: Don’t use this app.
Scosche support told me many months ago they were aware that this app’s firmware update broke many Rhythm+ devices, including mine, and would have a firmware fix released by the end of November 2017. Meanwhile they did not offer any other simple fix for what they broke. They could just send working replacement units in exchange for the broken one. Now it’s February 2018 and all they did in this latest app release is disable the automatic firmware update and make another promise for a future fix. To make things even more difficult for their customers you’ll have to discover on your own when and if this new app that’s supposed to fix their hardware is released, and then roll the dice, install it and see what happens. Meanwhile I bet they’re banking on all the old Rhythm+ devices dying from unused, uncharged batteries that have been in unused broken devices that are sitting in drawers.

Old Version 2 app review: this firmware update to v 3.01 has rendered my scosche rhythm+ totally unreliable for heart rate monitoring. Since this update it randomly reports a heart rate in the thousands i.e. over 4000 BPM or more!! Often locking into the erroneous number for the remainder of the workout.

Old stuff: App and review update Jun 17, 2017: totally new and improved firmware update method now immediately prompts you if it sees you have an older firmware (below 3.01) and walks you through the steps in real time to update your firmware. Be prepared to connect your Rhythm+ to a charger to proceed. Firmware update took less than a minute.
The rest of the app appears to be mostly unchanged (no documentation on how to use) but they fixed the send data via email button which used to crash the app. And replaced the simple upgrade firmware button with the automatic procedures. Maybe a few other changes but it's difficult to tell. Review update 6/18 I notice the Parametric Data change page is now very buggy and doesn't allow changing any or all of the data. -1 review star for that.
+1 star because the new firmware procedure is much less likely to brick your Rhythm+
If documentation was available somewhere, or if it showed blood Oxygen level, or could be used to set the Rhythm+ to record independently like it has disabled switches to do I would give it more stars.
Original review (from Jun 10, 2017) of prior version of this app:
There are a few clues in the Apple App Store's app description of some of the things this app shows and can do but you really have to work to find that and to figure out how to use this app.
I was able to use the firmware update feature to update my Rhythm+ from 2.5 to 2.62 (as of this writing on June 10, 2017.) that update brought some small new features like reaching full charge now lights the LED blue instead of turning it off.
I noticed after first install of this app that I had to turn the rhythm off and on before this app recognized it which may account for some other reviews saying it didn't work.
The app has a very simplistic interface that just gets the job done without any built in help and the app support link in the App Store only points to scosche's sales Site.
I couldn't find any information anywhere on what the latest firmware is. I suspect version 2.62 is hard coded into the app.

  • A Disaster

This app is a disaster. The developer says they’re working on a new version, but they’ve been silent for months.

The app doesn’t seem to work. I’m trying to change the name of my device so that when it inevitably disconnects in the middle of a workout (a common problem), I know which Bluetooth device, amongst the dozens of the same model in my gym at any given time, is mine. The change device field doesn’t seem to have any effect.

The HR monitor itself seems to stop reporting my HR at least once a week. When I use Bluetooth and Ant+ at the same time, both stop working. Is this the firmware issue the devs refer to in the last update for the app? I don’t know. They don’t provide any details or workarounds.

    Very frustrating experience all around.

  • Terrible Utility!

Firmware 3.10 that I got with my new Scosche (old one was stolen :/) is useless as it shows heart rate consistently below 90bps during long runs such as marathons that suddenly spike above 200bpm - compared to consistent ~170bmp on another device. With no ability to downgrade or change firmware to 2.62 where the device worked as intended both the app (that also tends to crash) are USELESS!
