  • Great Learning Tool

Wish there were more apps like this to learn a language for free.
  • Fun

It’s fun and I feel like I know more than I did. I don’t know how effective it is ultimately but I’m 2 levels in and know at least 10 more bits than I did before using the app.
  • Must read! Amazing and easy to learn!

This app is easy to use and makes watching anime in Japanese a hole lot easier to understand. It’s also great if your traveling to Japan. 😗👍🏼

Some people are saying that they’re learning bad words or words we won’t use if we’re actually talking to a native , I’m here to say that you do understand that this is ANIME correct ? ANIME uses this type of language , sometimes you’ll see it in dramas too. It’s pretty obvious as it’s the same for English series , they don’t say things that we actually use in real life so what exactly is the difference here? Understand that you’re learning a new language through CARTOONS / ANIME if that’s not enough for you guys to understand that they’re not going to use things they say in real life then why are you even learning the language. こいつ , あんた, お前 , those are words you’re going to here very very very often & you’ll understand when & when not to use it.. good day☺️
  • good starter into the basics

This app isn't a bad start for beginners, especially if you like anime.
  • Love so far

    No problems so far
  • A bit rude…

First off, I’d say this app works super well! Having audio/visual examples to tether to vocab is awesome and it’s already got me remembering more words and repeating them! As someone with ADHD, repeating sounds is somewhat unconscious so this works great for that!

In the beginning vocab levels, some of the words you learn are pretty rude, especially if a woman uses them, whether we like that gender difference or not. It’s important when learning another language to consider their culture and outlooks, so for someone, especially a woman, to say あんた (anta, shortened form of “you”) or こいつ (koitsu, derogatory pronoun, “you bastard”), that is super super rude. Sure, it’s fine to teach rude words but when those came up there was no disclaimer or warning. If I didn’t know already that あんた is super rude, I might have made the mistake of saying it to my Japanese teacher!!

When starting out on the vocabulary with this app, I’d be cautious about using the pronouns it gives you at first until you know a bit more! Watashi, of course, is a fine default to start with so don’t worry! Just definitely pay attention to the clips and try to pick up whether the speaker is a delinquent character or not, and then maybe look up the word later and see what connotation it has!! And definitely don’t use words from this app with a Japanese speaker without first checking if it’s rude!!
  • Overall great

Not much more to say, it’s a weeb’s best tool for learning Japanese!
  • A great way to study

The ability to practice both remembering Hiragana but also hearing the sounds within spoken words has been very beneficial to me. Great app.
