iPad user: The app is starting to have more potential for resident training but is missing some crucial functions and glitch fixes that would make the expensive price tag of the BCSC ebooks worthwhile. Best addition to the most recent update that gives it real potential is the search function across multiple textbooks. The quality of that search function could be improved if the screen didn’t lock with the word on top when clicking the arrow through the found words. It makes it impossible to see the context of the word other than the text below and requires leaving the search function in order to do so. Maintaining the ability to scroll as usual while also skipping through the found words would be ideal. Occasionally, the search function freezes and requires restarting the app. Notably, the new version unfortunately still lacks a user friendly highlighter function as previous reviewers requested from the older versions - spotty text selection and multiple clicks to make a highlight aren’t efficient enough to make this function worthwhile. A highlighter on and off button with less glitchy text selection would make all the difference. Overall, the app is getting better with the most recent update but for the price of the ebooks, I still don’t think it is worth the purchase for most trainees. If the AAO developers are able to take into consideration some of the above issues, I could see this becoming an essential purchase for training and practicing ophthalmologists but it is not quite there yet.
