What's New in Liverpool Echo
9.4.0
December 5, 2024
Today’s update is mostly maintenance, but we do have some nice things too. First, we have a UX update for Commenting, we now display in the comments if the commenting conversation is closed, anyone trying to post a comment after it’s closed would not see their post and no feedback as to why. Secondly we have some UI updates sprinkled around the app, these include new icons and better uses of colour. We’ll be back with more in the future release.
The sheer amount of ads present on the home page (alone with other issues) cause even my brand new iPhone 16 Pro Max to get hot, laggy, and use 10% of the entire battery in 20 minutes.
Absolutely unfit for purpose, and I’d argue with that level of power draw it’s almost a virus.
That’s not to mention the incredibly low quality drivel that populates this news app - the boss of Reach (the parent company of the paper) said that reader engagement and the quality of articles did not drive revenues as much as volume of content”, and further went onto say that “We don’t talk about engagement and quality” in management contexts.
This is an app that doesn’t value your phone, and a newspaper that doesn’t value your time or intelligence. Avoid it and start reading The Post instead if you want excellent quality local journalism.
