November Uodate

Recent update seems to have locked the heating history graphs to the phones time setting, which is a pain when I am operating my UK holiday let heating from Australia. It has an 8 hour blank
Section after updating. Not sure if I’m doing something wrong.
The actions could benefit from a duration feature where you can select an action to happen after a certain time, such as turn heating off after front door has been open for 30 minutes.

Hi there, sorry to hear your feedback. We are continually working to improve the app and its features, we can feed all of this in. If you need any help, please reach out via live chat or social media. Thanks, The Hive Team.

Have things improved?

Further update: the Hive app now seems to work better than before.
Ironically however, I now find it harder to use: to control Hive, much the easiest way was to use widgets straight from the iPhone Lock Screen. They used to work well, but are no longer supported by Hive on iOS 18. Yet again, one step forward and two back?

Further update: the Apple Watch app is on the blink again. It requires you to firstly log on to the iPhone app so frequently that the Watch app is rendered unusable.

Update: After many years, is Hive actually working without frequent complaint? Things didn’t used to be like this (see my previous review below), but maybe, just maybe, are the dark days over?? Previous review: Advice to long suffering users: 1. Add the Hive log-in page on Safari to your home screen, and use that to control Hive whenever there is a (unfortunately frequent) problem with the app. Contrary to the trouble shooting information provided, the problem invariably lies with the Hive app itself. So it pays to have some other way of controlling Hive products. 2. Download the IFTTT app and use that to control Hive. 3. Use Alexa or Google Home to control Hive. If you value your sanity, do not rely exclusively on this app. One day the whole thing may work (hopefully sometime this century), but there is no sign of this happening anytime soon.

Hi there, and sorry to hear about your experience. We are aware of an issue with the app incorrectly showing a 'no internet connection' message, and working on this, as well as improving the Apple Watch app - please look out for updates in the coming weeks. With regards to app freezing, please would you be able to provide some more information on this please? What did you experience and what were you trying to do at the time? You can update your review to inform us, or get in touch with us on Facebook or Twitter @HiveHelper. We also have web chat through the Hive website www.hivehome.com. Hi Yellowren-so happy to hear this is now working for you. Have a great day! Kind regards, The Hive Team.

Absolute rubbish

Until a very short time ago, I had a heating schedule set up. Now I have nothing and no way I can find to set it up again. I don’t want to belong to a ‘community’. I just want to control my heating. Now I can only boost it for a specified time period. Why did they need to change the app?

Hi Schadylasy-I am so sorry to hear the issues you are having. Can you please contact us and we can take a look and remotely resolve your issue, thanks! The Hive Team.

Overrated but has uses when it works

Never a day goes by where something doesn’t work properly. It’s ok if you’re a techie and able to fix problems easy but if you’re not then I wouldn’t bother with this system. I am a techie but I forever have to get my heating back online after it is blanked out in the app and I have a number of Hive bulbs that are unprogrammable and the ones that can be programmed just go off grid very often and do their own thing. I have BT full fibre which is 600mbps + so it is definitely not a wifi issue. The helplines are run by South Africans and the accent is incredibly hard to understand for a Brit and puts me off ringing. I haven’t just written this review after owning for a couple of weeks and not being used to it, I am now in my second year of using Hive and am fully versed in the system but I would jump ship in a heartbeat if it wasn’t for the cost and hassle.

Continues to get worse with a bulb that customer service is unable to get working despite me spending hours on the phone with them. They say they will ring you the next day to check if it’s working but they don’t bother. They cut off the customer chat if you’re not happy with them keeping you waiting 15 minutes every message while they deal with other customers. It’s just terrible service all round. Terrible terrible terrible.

Hi there, I'm sorry you're having issues with the devices going offline. This would usually indicate a signal issue between the Hive devices rather than being WiFi related, as the devices don't use WiFi. If you can get in touch with us directly, we'd love to help resolve it with some troubleshooting. You can reach us on Facebook, Twitter @HiveHelper or Webchat/WhatsApp via our website www.hivehome.com. Thanks, The Hive Team

Lost synchronisation

Firstly the app wasn't bad but since the last update I have lost all synchronisation with my two devices I have the app on my phone (iPhone 14 + and iPad Pro) I use to have no issues if what I'd told the heating to do it would replicate on the other device but lately that has ceased to work and on my watch it keeps telling me it can't connect? Also the app keeps asking me to try something new I tried it and don't like also it keeps pushing for a service plan where's the option to opt out of that as I'm already in a service plan but not with yourself as from passed experience with BG I'm keen not to experience ever again the service was shocking to the extent of I had to involve a solicitor in sorting it which I don't intend to repeat but going back to the app and the hive device it does work just the way I like it it could be better but that's nitpicking but the app has gone down the pan why don't touch what isn't broken please... update we now have synchronised control but the watch app every time you try to use it says please log in when you are on your phone. Update unfortunately the watch app is still failing albeit not as often its still saying please log back into your account on your phone

Hi there, Just to answer the updated part of your review, if the Apple Watch app asks you to log in on the phone, you should just be able to tap the watch screen and it will connect. If this doesn't work, please get in contact with us directly so we can investigate it further. You can reach us on Facebook, X @HiveHelper or Webchat/WhatsApp via our website www.hivehome.com. Thanks, The Hive Team

Clearly a recent issue

Hopefully the developers are on tho this and there will soon be an update as there’s clearly an issue with connectivity. This has been working perfectly for years, until now. In fact I’ve just had the engineer out and he changed the thermostat and the receiver on the boiler, which is not cheap. Just come in now and it’s freezing and the thermostat has disconnected again yet the app says it’s heating, the other day it was 25c. I’ve had no changes to my internet, everything is working fine there and no additional devices added, nothing has changed. Looking at the very recent reviews here suggests there may be an issue with the recent update and/or a system bug. I’m always a fan of the KISS acronym (keep it simple stupid) although that’s probably not very pc now but it’s still true.
Not a fan of the new beta version. Maybe it’s a better dashboard for if you have lots of different devices connected but I don’t, just a lightbulb and don’t plan to have more so I prefer the simpler version. It works well. Please please please stop the hard sell for hive plus. I, like many others it seems have no interest in this and no intention to buy it so why do I constantly have to have a little red message light blinking at me constantly? It’s annoying. I’m definitely not adverse to change but it’s got to be an improvement on the previous. Please sort it and quickly.

Poor update app not connecting to hardware

Hive app has been working fine until last update since then there have been issues connecting to hive plugs and radiator valves half my system is currently not connected to app and has to be used manually I have tried all the steps in support all to no improvement. Think we need a rollback to the app version that works. Thanks hive😡
Update:
At the request of hive I started using the beta app. It worked! For 10 hours now I can’t turn on my central heating via the new beta app as it states the system is offline. But there is a common sense fix to this if I return to the old app central heating works perfectly but not all my valves are connected! as it’s not offline on the old version. The other issue I had with the new app when it was working🤔 was that I would set the thermostat values to 20 degrees and after 15 minutes I would find central heating was off as all the values had gone back to 6 degrees via the app this is a very buggy app and it is causing a lot of stress.

Hi there, Sorry you are having issues with the app, are you are using the classic or new dashboard? You could try switching between them for now to see if this resolves the issue. There is a button at the top of the page to switch. Thanks, The Hive Team

Latest version of the app doesn’t work

STILL NOT GOOD. Updated following response from developer- Both new and original dashboard have issues. Original is alway incorrect temperature until restarted but you can at least turn the heating on and off. New dashboard is just as per my review below. I certainly wouldn’t pay for the plus functionality if the basic app is this badly broken. Please just fix the basics and leave it alone.

The last version worked fine, was easy to use and no issues. This new update EVERY TIME I open it to change or check the heating or turn something on it claims I can’t connect to the hub and the devices are offline. They aren’t and you have to close are restart the app to do what you wanted to do. If you even just minimise and go back in it’ll then say the same. Setting the temp often now just fails until you restart. Basically you get one shot to do what you’re trying to do and that’s only when you open the app from totally closed otherwise it won’t work. Have reported on the feedback section of your app. Put it back to how it was it used to just work.
