  • Love this app!!!

Not all photos are going to translate into the watercolor look properly, but when you find ones that do, wow this app is just amazing!
I haven’t tried it with people as I don’t take that many pictures of them, but with nature and animals, I’ve gotten some spectacular results.
With close-ups of my pets I get these wonderful warm images that still capture the personality and the expressions. And the nature of the watercolor effect means if I have background clutter it often gets translated into something that captures the colors, but not that you’re looking at clutter. So a photo that I wouldn’t frame because of that background clutter becomes a beautiful image that I do want to hang on my wall.
I’ve also used this with photos from my local botanical garden and gotten some really lovely images.

  • Not happy with resolution

Samples seemed to indicate a larger notion of the canvas size. It’s actually much lower resolution than the phone camera and much is lost in the painting version. It might suit some people but the example I tried with a portrait didn’t abstract the scene well enough.

  • Fantastic watercolor effect. Beautiful results.

I love taking pictures, and modifying them with iPad apps.
This app is one of my favorites. Nice variety of watercolor effect choices. Also has controls for modifying the balance of light and dark, and granularity of the effect. I often use this in combination with other art/photo apps, to get a final result. I love that we have so many creative options for photography :-)

  • Portraits

Hi, I have just downloaded this program & have found the backgrounds & objects came out brilliant but faces not so good! There is too much white on faces & they are not very clear, I tried 4 times to adjust photo! The photo is not blurred & very clear!
  • I am a great artist!

To be honest, I’m not a great artist, and this app is not going to make me a great artist. Your mileage may vary. But dang it, this app makes me feel like I am a great artist capable of producing beautiful images.

It’s easy to use. You take a photo or use one from you album (or paste one). It offers you different watercolor styles. You pick one and voila! You get a quick sample render. Choose another and you get a sample thumbnail for comparison. App settings (resolution and exposure) are right there, adjustable on a per photo basis.

Whether you are a seriously creative person or just looking for a fun way to experiment and play with your photos, this app is for you, 100%. Other apps might give you a ton more features/filters like oil painting or what have you, but they’re not as fun to use, nor as easy. GET THIS APP.

  • Wedding invite

Made an amazing wedding invite when artist friends I approached to pay all didn’t have enough time or energy to commit to paid work!? Result was amazing and classical. Wish I could share photo..
  • Still Magical!

An amazing little app that takes “the precise” and transforms it into a question! …into a possibility! For me, as a designer, the use and beauty of a watercolor is that viewer’s see and understand the larger subject…while individually, they tend to get lost in visually hazy and differently perceived details…i.e. they all/each see different things within a watercolor. This effect allows for further creative thought…prompting further explorations…further discussions, whereas the effect of presenting a photo is much more often seen as…perceived as…a conclusion. Waterlogue does exactly what I need…what I personally enjoy, as well! It transforms “the real” …into dreams!

  • An update review in 2023

The reason I downloaded Waterlogue was because of an article in a magazine called digital photo June 2015 by Bruce Dale. this is a high quality creative program. The complaints I read about the white specs which can be easily taken care of in a Paint program or using a clone brush on any photography program. The price for the program is less than a cup of coffee at Starbucks. To the winers, nothing is free. You have to work just a little bit. To everybody else you won’t be disappointed with this program. I am capitalist and you did not charge me for the update, so I bought every photography app that you created. Thank you!

  • Great app...

I have been using this app for several years. It’s like magic..watercolor before your eyes. Try it and I am sure you will love using it as well.
  • Beautiful app but…

I love the organic way that it animates your picture from a blank canvas to a fully fleshed out painting. My only gripe is, that although you can change the canvas size to larger to get more detail, if that could be extended further just to get more detail in the image, that would make this app brilliant. Also the output image size is rather tiny, it’s half the dimensions of what the original photos are taken in using the iPhone camera. This needs to be fixed!!!
