My family and I visited Wilmington and wanted to learn about its history, culture, and architecture. We downloaded the “Second Street to the River” tour. Unfortunately it is merely a collection of dates and names with little to no context and virtually no attempt to make the stops interesting. For example, the tour states that until 1929, travelers had to take a ferry to cross the river. My son asked why it was so hard to build a bridge here as the river is not notably wide - any context of this type would have been helpful. We know little more about the city after taking the tour than we did when we started - who founded the City? Why in this location? What was it that made it a thriving place? The tour’s monotonous narration elicited no passion for the place or its history and seems like a missed opportunity to introduce visitors to what is clearly a very cool city.
