Version History of iWrite Wenzi

1.0.3

July 19, 2022

Updated for latest iOS.

1.0.2

September 26, 2017

iWrite Wenzi was launched in 2014 and this new version is now offered for free and dedicated to all people wanting to learn Chinese writing. It is designed solely for users like you to learn Chinese characters in depth so that you will be able to recognize and reproduce them in writing and recall what have learned.
You will learn the three keys of Chinese writing in characters: what each character means, how it is constructed from their ingredient graphemes and how their associations.
Extensive notes are added to help you acquire the authentic meanings from their roots in the etymology of the earliest bone script, the Jiagu script.
To make common sense the characters in the app are classified in 10 categories such as human, tools, earth and animals etc. Through elaborate sequencing of characters 10 characters that are associated in meaning by sharing certain ingredient graphemes are assembled into a lesson. For example the characters for trust 信 and honesty 誠 in Chinese share the grapheme for  ‘saying’ 言。
These complex associations are presented under the tab “Category” for easy search and relating of characters. Instead of seeing Chinese characters as arbitrary and random they are organized by these semantic  categories. They are concrete instances of logical associations among characters that enhance building of semantic networks in our long term memory.
Have fun writing Chinese with iWrite Wenzi!

Description of iWrite Wenzi

iWrite Wenzi, the iPad App for Chinese Writing Get ready to learn writing Chinese like never before! This professor-developed method for learning to write Chinese is now available for the first time in an interactive touch application on the iPad. A GROUND-BREAKING METHODOLOGY AND PEDAGOGY Proven learning and memory retention techniques are combined with our unique etymology-based methodology for teaching Chinese writing, developed by a life-long educator and scholar who has devoted his life to creating effective learning systems in fields ranging from medicine, to mathematics, computer science, and more. He is symbolized by our icon and mascot, Professor Panda™. A NEW ALGORITHM THAT WON’T LET YOU FAIL In addition to the animated master character that can show you how a character is correctly written anytime and every time you need guidance our stroke-checking writing pad guarantees you will write each and every character correctly every single time. Soon you will be writing characters with confidence, knowing the correct stroke direction, order and number of strokes. The built-in realtime feedback, positive reinforcement and compelling user experience will help you retain what you acquired and keep you going to achieve your writing goals. EXCLUSIVE RESEARCH AND JIAGU IMAGES You will learn the fascinating way in which Chinese characters were constructed thousands of years ago. The  notes for each character is based on our original research and authentic roots of the earliest Chinese bone scripts, or “jiagus”. You will discover how meaning was originally constructed in Chinese character, and be able to "see" the cultural context embedded in  the modern characters used today. You get to know Chinese culture first hand at once when you study with this app. USING “GRAPHEMES” TO BOOST COMPREHENSION Delight in learning how to decipher the meaning of more complex Chinese Characters as you learn to recognize the most basic graphical units of meaning, which we call “graphemes.” The manner and use of graphemes is unique to the model of Chinese Writing Systems invented by our founder to make understanding Chinese characters both more logical and more intuitive. LEARN FROM A RESEARCH TEAM DEDICATED TO CHINESE WRITING While there are many useful products and methods for learning to speak Chinese, few if any compelling products exist for learning writing Chinese characters, mainly because both teaching and learning to write Chinese has typically been considered too challenging. As our enterprise name, Chinese Writing Systems™ indicates, our focus is Chinese writing. We specialize on providing content, methods, tools and other materials to help people effectively learn to recognize and produce Chinese characters through understanding the true nature of the writing system. But don’t worry, the spoken Mandarin and written pronunciation in pinyin are provided for every character as part of the total character-learning experience in the app. A ROADMAP FOR BUILDING YOUR KNOWLEDGE In each lesson the ten characters presented have been carefully selected and grouped to demonstrate the underlying principles how characters are constructed. Going beyond learning those characters you will appreciate the inner workings of Chinese writing as a logical system that will facilitate and speed up the learning process. You will find learning to become easier and faster as each lesson builds upon the previous one to increase your skills and improve your performance. MORE THAN JUST CHARACTERS As you progress through the lessons, you will come to understand the logic and techniques used to construct graphical meaning in Chinese characters. You will also make discoveries about the culture, values, beliefs and practices of the ancient Chinese people in the notes about the origin of the characters. Start writing and learning Chinese characters now with iWrite Wenzi!

  • Great tool, very beautiful presentation

I love the categories view but I can't see how to view a word in categories and then open it in the study panel. I think there should be a link from the word to the study panel and vice verse: clicking the category while I am studying should take me to the category view so I can see related words. Let me know if I am mistaken but I see no such links in this version.

I would like to see integration with Pleco like Skritter uses or else just a copy to clipboard option.

For studying the terms and jiagu, I would like to have the screen rearrange itself so these can be full screen with no need to scroll. For example, the writing panel isn't needed while studying the etymology.

For finding a word in the category view, I would like to see a way to sort the words or a way to search for a word.

It might be nice to just quickly click 10 words from the category view and create a custom study deck.

I would like to have the word pronounced each time I draw it so that I am reminded to pronounce it myself and I think the success should fade away quickly or not be shown at all since the character knows if I touched all the points it is already very clear that I am successful or not. Furthermore, it takes time to click to make it disappear and I just want to drill the character into my head.

From the categories view I would like to be able to choose what to show on the cards depending on what I want to study. Currently it shows Chinese characters, but I might want to have it show English or German or maybe just audio in Chinese so that I can test my ability to recognize the character before I see it.

I bought iWrite Wenzi to broaden my understanding of the Chinese language. This is a beautiful language with such depth of history and culture. I am planing on traveling to China and figured it would be most helpful in getting around more comfortably. This app will be most helpful for Baby Boomer travelers, and anyone for that matter!
I would very much like to see this app as a core curriculum in our school systems. I love Professor Panda! I checked out others and found I Write Wenzi the easiest to use. I know students of all ages will as well.
