  • My go to photo app

I’m constantly wondering why I can never find a way to change the sizing of a photo to make it acceptable for a website you want to use it for on an iPad or iPhone. I have used any number of these apps and have yet to find a solution to this very common issue. When I used a computer I was able to do these changes quickly, with no fuss. Yet on an iPad I find I can’t do it at all. Why is that? I have several photography apps on my iPad. I use them all. But I use Rookie Cam more frequently than the others. If I use another photo app, I'll almost always start with Rookie Cam and then switch to another to get an effect that isn't available on it. But if I had to choose just one photo app, this would be the one. Thanks for keeping this app going through the constant flow of upgrades in iOS on the iPhone and iPad. I never worry if Rookie Cam is going to glitch or crash. It never does. It always works for me and has the filters that I love.

  • Good but….

I love this app especially because it has so many filters and I love the collage filter one piece of feedback is have more editing options besides colors to make your picture and filters. Add things that put more depth into the picture like filters that make it look like it’s motion etc. I would love that addition because I take photos and I edit them and sell them and I’m always looking for ways to add more motion or POW to my photo. Other than that it’s an amazing app.

  • Rookie NOT just for "Rookies"!

For a free price tag, this app is simply amazing! Ho-hum photos can easily become knock-out photo show winners! I've taken pics of 1950s era photos (the typical faded-color-&-blurred-image type) & used Rookie to transform them into something actually identifiable. Used the free version for a few years & then when I upgraded from iPhone 4 to a 6, decided to splurge for the Upgrade pack. Am not sorry that I did...however, I do wish there were some banner options available. I love the fonts..there's sure to be one that'll fit the "feeling" of the text you add! All in all, am lovin' it!

  • Just amazing for a phone app—!!—even the basic version!!

Just amazing for a phone app—User Tip!: texture images in MULTIPLE applications of “texture”—because of how the app works, you can build more subtle textures without going back more than 1step, (apply paper at 35% /multiply/-then go right back into maybe grunge-at 45%/hardlight, then one more trip into paper but try using same paper texture as before, only now, use a different blend mode to pull in more depth thru’ the highlights or shadows, etc. )—-And you can do this without having to save the file each time you tweak and enhance texture—it’s better than most apps in this “fast-textural-build” way. —it is easy to customize texture & it’s fast!! Great app for creatives to have on hand at all times.

  • Having a challenge

No tutorial - can’t figure out how to reset the filters. Not intuitive for me. A bit later - Getting better - more to learn- enjoying the app. Still can’t find the tools easily. I like the app I still have a challenge with getting the buttons that I need to show up and I’m learning. Not as intuitive for changing the settings - would like to see the buttons when you switch filters. I really do enjoy it in like the different options I just wish it was a little bit easier to work when you’re looking at the bottom of the page changing your filters to make sure it works Getting more familiar! Update - still working with it to see what filters work best for capturing accurate lip color etc. I enjoy using it - Doing great! Enjoying all the different filters…

  • Update — ALL IS WELL. 10/10 !

UPDATE: ALL IS WELL. ZERO ISSUES WITH ROOKIE CAM. A BELOVED APP FOR MANY YEARS NOW. Old review: Muted Audio for No Reason for 2 videos and no others I’ve written glowing reviews for this app before Video today. One of them was so....important. I’ll never use rookie cam or PICSPLAY for anything other than post. I really needed something w more features than the video/camera app of the iPad, and rookie cam totally delivered. having just spent hours pouring my heart and soul into my work (video under one hour); at the end, headache, & actually pleased with the product (the app, me & my own work—RARE!!!) i pressed play, no sound, tried everything i could, downloading other app and paid for them. I became fully deflated, and numb, and apathetic to ever doing this again (this was the first video of a big project) I recorded a testing 123 type of video after and it was muted. Then I recorded another testing video and IT SUDDENLY HAD SOUND. Then...after that I tinkered around & read and BOTH ROOKIE CAM AND PICSPLAY—I TURNED “shutter sound” ON AND OFF AND IN EACH COMBO OF ON/ OFF BETWEEN THE 2 APPS AND IT WAS NEVER MUTE AGAIN. (one place said it was the shutter sound toggle that caused the mute...but...it never did again...?) LITERALLY...FOR THE 1,000,000th TIME. IM ANGRY AT MYSELF FOR DOING/TRYING/BELIEVING/ENJOYING. if the app....god if it’s possible to get the sound...in any crazy kind of way...I will do just about whatever it takes

  • the sort of app you write a good review for, y'know?

I've been using Rookie Cam for at least six years now. It's always been perfect. I don't open the app as often these days, but it's always my reliable go-to. It seems like the layout is always changing and I have to find my way around again.. but that's always pretty simple.

I haven't been forced to subscribe for full features. I chose to pay for the upgrades I used, and I respect that business model. Of course a developer deserves to be paid for their work and time. But I don't support devs that squeeze $100/year out of a $20 product.

  • Many options!

I love photographs to capture memories and sometimes to keep them fun. I’m definitely not a pro. Throughout the years I’ve had several photo apps on my iPhones which did not upgrade to the constantly changing iOS. I have had an iPhone 7 and Rookie Cam for the past three years, and I am absolutely satisfied. There are so many filter options to enhance your photos. No glitches whatsoever thus far. It’s been so easy to use. It is my #1 go to photo editor. Hopefully it keeps upgrading as phones keep changing.

  • More control over stretched photos than other apps

This app is packed with useful, high-quality features, but I really appreciate what Rookie Cam offers in terms of aspect ratio. I really love that I can easily re-adjust images that were shot in different perspectives, or images that came to me with the image content too narrow or too stretched out. Rookie Cam does have some limitations in fixing these issues. For e.g., when you stretch out the content of a narrowed image (like when people and objects look unnaturally thin), the resulting stretched-out image can only be saved with the original image’s aspect ratio. In other words, both sides of an image stretched out by Rookie Cam result in an image that looks natural again (people and objects are properly “thick”), but when you save the image, both left & right sides of the newly-stretched image (that would ordinarily make the original image much wider) get chopped off. And you have no control over what part of the image gets saved; it just crops both sides equally.

Overall, an awesome product, and I highly recommend it!
