Great app!

It’s easy to use and it made the Olympics very easy to watch. The filter button is amazing because I can just go to filter select country or sport and then I know when I need to watch something! Thank you for this amazing app!

Useless

No search function. Nearly impossible to find an athlete. Looks like a web site forced onto a mobile screen. Probably react native or some nonsense tech.

Idiot proof

Awesome app only a complete muppet would have trouble with this app. Great layout, easy to follow favourites and seemed to keep up well with live events.

Very helpful

Updating my previous negative review. Not sure why it lost everything I saved the first day, but it has worked flawlessly since. Loved getting the reminders when events I was interested in were starting and the app always gave the alert with enough time to get the TV turned on and tuned in.

I wish I could mark more than one country as a favorite. Most of us have mixed heritage or allegiance these days.

Good app overall but some glitches and bias

Overall, this is a good app. I like the fact that you can indicate which countries are your favourite - which allows you to track everything these athletes are in. The pronunciation guides for Chinese athletes is also much appreciated. There are some glitches with the filters when you’re trying to pull results by sport or for previous days and it takes several tries before you get where you need to be. The featured articles are also VERY Western hemisphere focused. For example, the top 5 articles on August 8 as of 8am (EDT) are about the US artistic swimming team’s silver, the upcoming US basketball games, the US women’s relay team, the US female weightlifter, and Australian’s male skateboarder. As someone who never indicated US or Australia as being my favourites, I’m baffled as to why the articles are only about people from these areas. Why no articles about anyone else? There are great athletes and stories everywhere - the Azerbaijani wrestler who got an emotional send off at the last game of his career, China’s first gold medal in artistic swimming, Canada’s hammer throw sweep, etc. There’s an obvious bias in content and it’s unfortunate. Otherwise, a good app.

Data grab

Update app again? 2 updates in less than 2 weeks = poorly planned design and bad project management. No excuse for this on a global stage esp. with the amount of money going through the whole thing. Showcase the best in sport and the worst in app design. It’s not like this is the first Olympics app either. So disappointing!

No, I don’t want to sign up, no I don’t want to be tracked, no I don’t want your cookies, no I don’t want you squeezing every drop of information out of me. Getting into this app was a series of hurdles and small print reading. Clearly not designed around the user experience and obviously prioritising the data grabbing agenda of sponsors and organisers. It seems political and commercial influences have no regard for what the Olympics stand for, instead using it as an excuse to further their own selfish interests.

Disorganized interface, can't find even the basics

This app is all over the place! It opens with a highly annoying advertisement of some app-designer chosen highlights from the games. When I try to find results of the day's events they are anywhere but where I would expect them to be! Some Paris Olympics and/or IOC marketing executive with no respect for the audience and people, must have dictated how this app was designed, because it serves no other purpose except to infuriate the end-user!

UNINSTALLING!

Good app - just one suggestion

Really enjoy this app. This is my main source for checking what events my country is competing in. Wish there was an option to filter not just what events for sure a country is competing in but also what events they might compete in based on the results of heats/semifinals etc. This way I don’t have to separately check each and every sport to see if there’s a semifinals or finals we might be in later that day. Would rather see any possible events included and just have the tentative ones labeled “tentative”.

Great for attending the games, not for users at home

This app has a lot of useful information. I can see this being a helpful app if you attend the games live but for people at home who want to be notified before their favorite even starts, this is not the app for you. You would think this app would do the bare minimum and remind you when your favorite events start but it doesn’t. It only notifies you when your country has a gold medal final event. I want to watch the heat 1, heat 2, quarterfinals, semifinals, etc. but I can’t even get notified for those events. Pretty pointless app if you are a user sitting at home which would be a majority of people using this app so pretty pointless. You can do everything this app does if you just google it. Save your space and avoid this app.

Response from developer

We apologise for any inconvenience you may encounter while using the Olympic app. Please note that the default notifications are for medal events. You can go into app settings-push notifications- select the favourite country or discipline and activate necessary selections. You need to select non-medal events explicitly, and then you will receive all notifications (start of an event for example).

Terrible organization, worse interface…

This app was great for London 2012, and so-so for Rio 2016, it was a dumpster fire for Tokyo 2020, and only showing signs of getting worse (UPDATE: they succeeded in making it worse for Paris 2024) It’s sluggish on good days, and useless pretty often. The interface itself isn’t very unintuitive, and lacks a lot of search features and sort/filter features that it used to have. If the ability so sort/filter by event exists, it is impossible to find. The amount of data mined from me as a user nowhere near equates to the lackluster performance I get from this junk app...especially now that they want you to have an account. Probably the most frustrating for this particular round has already been mentioned numerous times: no landscape mode. The first time I opened it, I thought everyone was crazy because landscape worked for me. It was a fluke, as it hasn’t worked since.
