Ai, not paying artists properly, etc.

This game has had speculations of using AI for a while now, though it wasn’t till recently when these rumors were proven true. The creator and the artist of this game has come out and directly said AI has been used for the background, menu, old currency icon, original ball python morph, etc.

The artist of this game has also rose concerns about the amount of money they are being paid for this project. Not a lot of money is being given to them after they’ve spend many hours drawing out most of these morphs. For example, they are only getting $100 for 80 morphs, which around 30 hours of work put into them. The artist has also told the creator that they didn’t not want to be associated with any AI. The creator has chosen to ignore this request and continue to use AI in the innovation of this game. The artist has also not been given proper crediting during the making of this game. All posts about this game on socials from the creator has failed to tag the artist. The creator claims that the player will know the artists once the player joins the game, though that doesn’t mean the artist is being given the proper amount of credit they deserve. The creator has also failed to read the artists TOS.

When all of this was brought up publicly on discord to the creator, they simple brushed it all off, banned the people who were not in their side. They also proceed to take an even more childish route and delete all of the messages that brought up these concerns.

Overall, the game has been ruined by the creator refusing to listen to the concerns of their players and artist. Instead of fixing these issues, they chose to hid them from the people who have yet to find out.

Response from developer

Hi, I’m the developer, and I’d like to clarify a few things. AI tools were used during the early development of 8BitMorphs, including placeholder artwork while I was prototyping the game, I’ve never hidden that. I’ve been gradually replacing those assets with community-created and commissioned artwork. Commission prices were mutually discussed and agreed upon, and contributing artists receive credit within the game. The prices for the artwork were set by the artist and agreed before any work started, and she is credited by name in the game. Her terms of service were never shared with me while we worked together. I recognize that communication around expectations and artwork usage could have been clearer by both parties, and I’m taking steps to improve that. I appreciate the artists who’ve helped bring 8BitMorphs to life, and I remain committed to supporting their work while continuing to improve the game. Thank you for sharing your concerns.

So Far Great!

I just got this app after randomly seeing it. And very surprised at how well made it is. The art is very nice and it’s not overrun with ads 💖.

Love it

Normally I don’t write reviews but this game is so fun. It’s a little hard to get started, at first I barely making enough to outweigh feeding them but once you get good mixes it gets a lot easier.

Response from developer

Thank you so much for the review! I’m keeping an eye on balancing currency earned and feeding!

Creative and fun game

Such a cute and unique game! It’s hard to find snake related games so I recommend it for all the snake lovers out there!! It’s fun seeing your collection grow and learning how the market works. Got to play it before it was officially uploaded to the App Store so i hope it gets more recognition because it really deserves it!

A creative, fresh new game!

This game is really detailed and such a cool take on a genre that hasn't been explored. There are many morphs to collect and there is a shop that refreshes so you can buy more morphs to use. You can tell a lot of effort has been put into making this. I don't have any complaints! :)

Response from developer

Thank you so much for playing and Thank you for the review!
