INSTRUCTORS AND STUDENTS...

This is my third year using FlyQ. Actually, my students know how to access the many features of this app more than I do. I suppose I am an "old school" instructor teaching and using the ole' plotter and E6B. For each new student I acquire I have always steered my students to FlyQ. Beyond the plotter and E6B having my students equipped with FlyQ gives me piece of mind that when it comes to the solo cross countries for my students I know they have a tremendous resource at their fingertips. In addition, progressing to the instrument ratings FlyQ is another valuable resource that I want to have. There's not too much more I can say except make the investment and you'll never leave home without it. GREAT JOB GUYS AND GIRLS AT THE FLYQ HEADQUARTERS!

ADS-B IN saved my skin more than once

I am a CFI and mostly fly an old Cessna 172B with no GPS. Along with their Merlin, I have access to ADS-B-IN and GPS information with FlyQ that has saved my skin a few times. It lets me see other traffic in very busy practice areas near Seattle and San Jose as well as weather. The weather graphics show up great using the IFR charts since its background is white, but traffic is useful with any background. It’s great for navigating around airspace and terrain and choosing the best altitude for a cross country flight. It is a little clumsy with its airway navigation, and I have found an occasional error in its database, especially in Canada and Alaska; however, point to point, it is spot on with dead reckoning math. I have never used it in Mexico or the Caribbean, so I can’t comment on that. The logbook feature is okay, and its functionality, as well as flight planning functionality, is greatly improved using the on-line websites. I love the fuel prices layer, and the SA airport diagrams are also nice. Overall, this product is much more affordable than ForeFlight, and nearly just as functional. I’d give it five stars if the UI in working with V-, J-, T-, and W- airways was more reliable and intuitive.

FlyQ EFB

Lets get this out of the way… as a customer with a ‘Lifetime’ subscription that is no longer honored,
I am disappointed but I understand development costs money and I like the app enough to rate it 4 and 1/2 stars.
The app works well and is feature rich on an iPhone. I like that you can access most of the important menu picks without having to drill down several sub menus. Also, the enlarged text feature for airport info is great. I was flying from San diego to Washington State when my iPad went belly up on the first leg. I was able to seamlessly and comfortably switch to my phone and complete the trip safely. I know other EFBs are capable, but being
able to get info easily and quickly is important. Its not perfect, on the rare occasion it hangs up, or crashes. I do not think the software engine (?) is quite as developed (polished?) as Garmin Pilot or Foreflight but is still one of the better EFBs.

Dishonest company

This company used to offer a lifetime subscription of FlyQ EFB. I purchased one. Just before Oshkosh 2024 Seattle avionics announce that they would no longer honor their lifetime subscriptions. A number of years ago this firm was purchased by private equity(PE) firm Aircraft Performance Group. This private equity firm has destroyed Seattle Avionics. It’s all about greed. The company was stupid enough to announce this change just before the EAA event at Oshkosh. During OSH, I took a walk over to the Boeing booth and found a nice discount on ForFlight. After 10 years of using FlyQ EFB, I’ve changed the Foreflight. I suggest anyone thinking about using this product from such a dishonest company do the same. The FlyQ EFB lawyers must’ve advised them to wiggle out of their lifetime subscriptions by changing the name to FlyQ “+”. stupid move by pathetic lawyers, and business leaders

If I can’t trust this company to honor their business agreements,, how can I trust them in the cockpit of my plane? They have permanently lost my trust. The leadership of this company needs to take business ethics 101.

Seattle Avionics poor business practice

When SA was starting out they offered lifetime subscriptions to help their cash flow to develop the application. It started out as a reasonable alternative to the higher priced EFBs but with less features. Most subscribers would provide feedback to help the company improve the product and we saw improvements for a while. A couple years ago the improvements stopped after the original owners sold the company. More recently they decided to cancel the lifetime subscriptions and screw their long time customer base with promises of product improvements and new features. Those of us using FlyQ don’t want new features, we just want a stable EFB that works reliably for VFR or ifr flight operations. FlyQ has not been a stable EFB for some time and each “new feature” they try and implement seems to just cause additional crashes of the system. It has gotten to the point where you can’t really rely on this EFB and you better be carrying paper charts or a backup EFB from a different vendor. Stability and poor customer relations are driving me to look elsewhere for my EFB requirements.

Used it since portable pc

I have had FLY-Q before IPad. It had a lot of features and had to change lap tops on Seattle avionics suggestions 3 times due to stability problems. I purchased their lifetime deal before IPad. Very happy when the switch to IPad cured most of the laptop problems. I tried Foreflight for two years but since I had a lifetime and they raised price on Foreflight, I went back to FLY-q. Honestly Foreflight blows FLY-q away, mostly because software has almost no bugs and runs flawlessly. Over the year I have owned it, every time there was a new release they fixed some bugs but added a bunch of new ones. I did not mind because I was using it less since my plane now has G1000, so my main use was flight planning. On occasions that would not work either, would not let me file unless I was on Wi-Fi. Now them sunsetting my software, I will be going back after all these years to Foreflight. Newest, if you forget to update charts they show up blurred rendering software useless. Stick with Foreflight, integrates better with ATC and Garmin equipment. If you want to be a test site then buy FLY-q.

Sub-par Platform & Unethical Business Practices

I started with FlyQ a few years ago and purchased their “lifetime subscription”. Well, apparently lifetime means something different to this company than it does for most anyone else as I am being thrown to the curb and told I now have to pay more. No thank you. This EFB has had a number of issues over the past several years including poor stitching of sectionals where maps don’t match up, locking up needing to restart the iPad, delayed TFR info, and many other smaller issues as well. I put up with it all because I had paid a premium initially to not have to pay an annual fee. After their garbage tactics, I’m done. After shopping their competition at EAA, I’m glad to pay their competition a monthly fee for far superior products. Foreflight, Garmin Pilot, etc. are all superior platforms to this. Save yourself the hassle and go right to a reputable company from the start.

Breach of contract and Apple’s TOS

I have used FlyQ for many years and think it is a very good app. Liked it so much that I bought what I thought was a LIFETIME subscription. It seems the management at FlyQ have no integrity in honoring a contract. They have added some features and updates to the app (like they have been doing for years) and now are trying to call it a new app named FlyQ+. Along with their attempt to rebrand the product they are telling us lifetime subscribers that we will have to pay $199/yr to continue using the app. If we do not start paying our “LIFETIME “ subscription will “sunset” in a year. Another person put in their comment that this is a violation of Apple’s TOS agreement for app developers. I have contacted Apple support and talked to Johan. He was extremely helpful and did find the wording in the previous comment in section 3.1.2(A). He initiated an escalation for me and we will see what happens. I suggest everyone take the time to contact Apple support and also have your case escalated with the information in the app developer TOS agreement section 3.1.2(A). If this is not resolved in our favor, FlyQ will never get another dime from me!

Lifetime subscription but still prefer other EFB vendor

Time to delete. Have been contemplating removing app but with my Lifetime subscription I kept waiting for it to compete with the top EFB that most use, including me. With the Lifetime subscription ending (thanks AFV Partners) it’s time to remove.

Honestly I stopped using FlyQ in 2021 when I went through a 10 day IFR course. The instructor kept asking me to do things in FlyQ that he could in his EFB but I could not. I submitted feature requests to FlyQ but after a few days of constantly being behind in the training (and a frustrated instructor) I paid for an annual subscription for the superior product and have used it ever since.

If you are looking for an EFB go with one of the two other options. And make sure your ADSB in receiver works with whatever you choose.

Bait and Switch

I am one of the many who were told they had a lifetime subscription only to be told this week that they were changing the terms and no longer offering it. In one sentence they tell us this is a new app with a new name “+”. (This seems to be a strategy to say the old product lifetime has ended). However, then they tell everyone version 7 is their best one yet and all this innovation is why they need to end their little model. One can’t have it both ways. This makes me believe things are going poorly since they were bought out.

The app has been buggy and unreliable for sometime. Much of that was fixed this spring but it feels a bit late and a dollar short. I could not rely on it in hard ifr and bought a competing subscription. Those issues being resolved, on principle I’ll continue pay more for a superior product aka Foreflight or Garmin Pilot) than give them any more money. I have asked for a refund of my lifetime subscription but have not heard back.
