Version History of Coming Light

1.5

May 26, 2019

Fixed display issues that occurred on larger phones and tablets. The reminder system has been rewritten which should fix some reported bugs and make reminders more reliable. Apple Watch app has been removed. I'm planning to replace with a newer version soon.

More

1.4.2

June 22, 2016

Improved the handling of location services. Also better explains effects if some options are not allowed for location services. Fixes a crash that could occur for users at some higher latitudes.

1.4.1

May 31, 2016

Improved some edge cases in recurring global reminders. Should be more reliable now, but for best results the app does need to be used on a regular basis. Fixed a bug that calculated an incorrect time zone at some locations. Also 1.4: Added the most requested feature: Global Alerts. You can now set up reminders for your current location to be reminded at a set time before Blue Light or Golden Light at your current location. Changed the UI for reminders to show separate tabs for these global reminders compared to those tied to a specific date and location. If you're upgrading, you will need to change Location Services to allow background use for these alerts to work as your location changes. The app will need to be accessed on a regular basis for these to be most accurate. Clicking on the reminder for any event will take you to the details for that event. Added support for iPad Pro. Reworked the date selection screen making it easier to explore future (or past) lighting and plan your perfect photo. Some small UI tweaks to clear up some confusion. A few bug fixes that could cause a rare crash of the app.

Description of Coming Light

When shooting outdoor photography knowing the light that awaits you at the destination can make the difference between mediocre and outstanding photos. Golden hour is a magical time of day where the light is perfect for portraits and photographing autumn leaves. Blue hour provides wondrous cityscapes and urban images. Star photography needs the sun out of way to let the stars shine through and moonless nights. Coming Light tells you when the sun will be right for photography on your next outdoor excursion. See the times of the transitions of light from twilight, blue hour, and golden hour in both the morning and evening. You can see what time the light reaches the correct position. You can set reminders for a specific date and time, or set global reminders that will alert you before blue hour or golden hour at your current location. For any event you can view the location of the relevant object at the location. You can also see the time of moonrise and moonset along with the moon's phase to better plan your photo work. Note: Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

  • Notifications Wildly Inaccurate

I have it set to tell me 30 minutes before “Evening Golden Hour” begins which is suppose to start around 7:30pm but it sends me a notification around noon each day saying it is going to start in 30 minutes.
  • Simple, attractive, complete

Was happy to pay the $1.99 to unlock future dates. Perfect for the photographer looking to find out the golden hour at a certain time and location - nice and simple. Love it and thanks!

Uniquely advises of Blue as well as Golden Hour, but one odd omission: no way to set global alerts. Instead, you set them up hour/day at a time. If that oddity were cured, this would be my top lighting app, but for now, the others have global alerts so I'm stuck.
