Useful offline app
Used the app to travel through Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia and pretty much all roads (major and minor) we came across were in the map and quite accurate in terms of distances, twists and turns. It looks a little messy and takes just a bit of getting used to at first but so good when you don’t have signal/GPS.

EXCELLENT but needs work
Has an app for navigating around off-road tracks in southern Africa this is definitely bees knees! sure it doesn’t have a navigate button nor do you get everything included for free but must buy the individual country capsules which let’s face it as so cheap that it’s incredible!
Where it does come into its own and where it’s in valuable is it detailed maps of tiny sand type tracks ……. if you have it on and you come to over let’s say Y junction and you’re not sure which way to go follow one and the little blue dot moves with you and within 100 m it’s so detailed you can tell whether they’re on the correct track or not !
The search-ability is arguably lacking but to my mind is main downfall is that it doesn’t work with Apple CarPlay.
More and more vehicles have CarPlay and it would be invaluable if we could display the app on a larger screen rather than be limited to the size of our phone.

Lack of detail=big problem
Purchased this app for a 3-week self-drive safari around Botswana. This app was quite helpful—until you come to any intersections of multiple roads or twisty conflagrations, which is rather common while off-roading in Botswana. In this situations, it’s nearly useless! You have to drive for 5 or 10 minutes, then check again to see if you’ve guessed the right direction. This cost us several hours of being lost multiple times, getting stuck in messy off-road paths, sometimes in dangerous situations, getting dark, very isolated, animals about, and far from our campsite. This was stressful. I am far from a beginner with maps and traveling.
The zoom just stops at a level way too high up. At about 1 cm to a mile! The blue dot-arrow with your position is some 200 m across. Why? It seems inexplicable. It was extremely frustrating.
I though maybe I was doing something wrong, like I hadn’t unlocked some park of the app. But the app shows the switch for the guide green and good to go.
We were very dependent on this app but could not rely on it.

Doesn’t do what it claims to
Bought the full Africa map. Doesn’t work. Search function? Nope doesn’t recognise anything. None of the icons at the bottom work, no campsites, fuel stops, etc. nada. Was going to use their maps in a Garmin for navigation for my Africa trip, but if they can’t even get a basic offline map to work then I will look elsewhere.

Don’t believe the other reviews, this is a life saver!
Don’t believe the other reviews - this app is totally invaluable where Google maps doesn’t work. It was a life saver for me in Botswana.
They are right you can’t plan routes etc. by the GPS tracking is totally accurate and it shows even the smallest sand tracks. One of the best things was it has all the campsites and fuel stops detailed, including phone numbers (which is great as a lot of places don’t have websites).
Would absolutely recommend

Very basic functionality
The developers do disclose it’s not a navigation app, but really is this the 1990s? No navigation, not CarPlay compatible. Map appears to be static, so doesn’t even move as you drive through it. T4A can surely do better for what they charge - I've spent £15 for South Africa, Namibia and Botswana.
£10
Useless waste of £10
I live in Namibia and use this all the time
It’s the best. All kinds of cool data for road trips.
Unique mapping solution
The T4A Guide is NOT a navigation solution - there are lots of apps for that. Rather it brings a paper map experience to the digital world. It supplements a navigation app but does not replace it. Navigation apps are hopeless for planning routes and trips as well as for providing big picture orientation while on a journey. This is where the Guide excels. As you zoom out it will still show town names where navigation apps struggle. The v2 update makes a huge difference by introducing far more detailed maps.

Helpfull
Lots of information for planning a trip and lots of information whilst on the trip. Places you on the map of your gps enabled device and supplies all relevant info in your immediate area such as fuel, lodging, shopping, camping and poi’s. It does not navigate but it gives the waypoints for these places to enter into your navigation system.
