  • Good but some notes

I'm a visually impaired user and have been looking for a better accessible keyboard for a while.

Keeble has the right idea though it's missing several things that hold me back from switching to it full time. Here are some suggestions:

    - allow customisation oh the key click colour. Right now, keys only flash in black which doesn't contract at all with any 'light on dark' theme, something many VI users like me prefer. I like to have that extra bit of visual feedback to confirm where I tapped.
    - Character previews. Many other keyboards have the character pop up in a larger form above your finger web tapped. This option should be here, the more visual feedback the better.
    - Add some more built in themes that VI users commonly use (white on black, blue on yellow etcj, I'm surprised these weren't standard. Also, have some kind of visual preview for what the built in themes look like instead of requiring us having to jump back and forth between the full keyboard preview.
    - Hold hey shortcuts. As seen in keyboards like GBoard, different letters are assigned different numbers and symbols that will be typed when you hold said key. For example, holding on 'Q' to insert a '1'. I think this is much more efficient than having to switch to the full symbols view each time.
    - Swipe/Slide typing. Very common in many keyboards, words are predicted based on the keys you slide over. Very fast and efficient in either phones or tablets. It should also have a visual trait to help track your swipes.
    - dictation. Granted I don't know how easy Apple makes it to induce but it would be convenient to have at hand without needing to switch keyboards.

Hope you might find these helpful!

  • Keeble keyboard

I have recently installed the Keeble keyboard on my iPad, nand found it to be a perfect fit for my accessibility problem (advanced ARMD). I am particularly impressed with the 'test' function of the App that allowed me to easily check out the various settings without committing to it. That allowed me to quickly decide what worked best for me (Purple Rain with simplified querty layout).

Another great feature I like is the ability to use it in conjunction with Apples's Smart Typing feature. Having the ability to have a full-size keyboard with expanded text field is marvelous!

The Phrase Bank originally displayed a 'hodge-podge of unrelated shortcuts, but after discovering that the order was determined by alphabetical order of the shortcut abbreviations I was able to re-order. Now on the first page of Phrase Bank I have my name, address, phone, Email address, etc. On the second, common phrases - and on the third, IP addresses.

  • No autocorrect

Keeble is great except for the fact that there is absolutely co autocorrect and I can't change the colours of the symbols. It's annyoing because I have a high contrast keyboard I really need auto correct. Also wish you could pick custom colours.

    Developer Response

Hi Lorelei Barnett, we are very sorry to hear about your disappointment with Keeble. Please know that autocorrect is a popular request for Keeble. We have entered your requests, including your request for the ability to color individual keys, into our system for future consideration. Regarding choosing custom colors for individual keys, you may be interested to know that you can select a wide range of colors for types of keys and key labels by opening the Keeble app and going to Theme (under the APPEARANCE section) > Custom Theme. • Customization is great but needs auto-correction option

Overall, I think this is a great app. The level of customization for how the keyboard looks is wonderfully helpful. However, the one major downside I have found is that there is no option for auto-correction. I wanted to use this app for accessibility because the customized keyboard is incredibly helpful but I can not use it because of the lack of auto-correction capabilities.

    Developer Response

Hi Sam_xd, thank you for taking the time to share your review of Keeble and your compliments on the app. We agree with you that auto-correction would be helpful. However, currently there is no way for third-party keyboards to access the system auto-correction. Developers have to add this to their keyboards. We will log your request in our system for our dev team's future consideration. If you have any additional requests, please email our team at support@assistiveware.com and one of our team members will be happy to enter your suggestions. Peace! :-)
  • A godsend

This is the best word prediction I have ever used. I have CP and type with a stylus or trackball and do a lot of writing for both work and general communication. The option for multiple-word prediction makes things so much faster, and the option to toggle learning on or off is particularly helpful. I prefer that my words don't move around a lot, so I'll turn on learning and enter phrases or word combinations I use most often, then turn off learning for a bit so that I know the most common choices will always come first. I also like the arrow keys and abbreviation expansion. However, it is impossible to knock the word "gonna" from the first row of choices after "I'm," which is slightly annoying. And I would like to see an option to reset the prediction data without having to reinstall the app. All in all, though, this keyboard seriously has me wishing I could do all my writing on the iPad, because it's light years above anything available on Windows. I hope it continues to thrive.

Hi Susan Ashworth, thank you so much for your five star rating of Keeble and glowing comments about the app. We are thrilled that Keeble fills your needs so well and you have mastered the features of the keyboard. David Niemeijer, AssistiveWare's CEO and founder, saw your review and was very happy that you find Keeble's PolyPredix word prediction helpful as he originally coded the first version of it over twenty years ago for KeyStrokes, AssistiveWare's legacy Mac onscreen keyboard. It is amazing how these innovations evolve and continue to help people. Regarding resetting word prediction, I will log this request in our system for our dev team's future consideration. Please feel free to reach out to us at support@assistiveware.com if you have any additional feature requests or have questions about Keeble. Our team is always happy to help! :-)
  • Surprisingly good for Skyle eye gaze

I use this to type with my eyes and it works well, despite some bugs.

Capitalization does not work automatically,, which is annoying,

    Otherwise it is a lifesaver.

    Developer Response

Hi xohdis, thank you for the positive review and sharing about your use of Keeble. We are happy that the app plays such a pivotal role in your iPad access and works well with Skyle. While we have not had the opportunity to try Skyle hands on, please know that we have not received any reports of Keeble not capitalizing words automatically. To troubleshoot, please open the Keeble app and make sure that Auto-Capitalization is set to Green/On under the PREDICTION section. In addition, please go to the Settings app on your device's home screen, go to General > Keyboard, and make sure Auto-Capitalization is set to Green/On under the ALL KEYBOARDS section. If these steps do not resolve the issue, please email our support team at support@assistiveware.com and one of our team members will be happy to troubleshoot further. Our team is available seven days a week and always ready to lend a helping hand. :-)

  • Works great on iPhone 6s Plus iOS 10.0.2

Impressed by the clarity of the voice of this Keeble keyboard! One important installation note necessary if the keyboard is to read out loud: "...you will need to tap its entry in the list of keyboards and toggle Allow Full Access to ON/green."
Thanks to this instruction in a very quick response from support during installation, my copy became fully functional in a couple minutes. I am very happy to have purchased this software!
