  • Needs rule updates

This hasn’t been updated in years
  • Has the info but needs work

Wonder idea having the Rulebook available at your fingertips. Now that rule books aren’t distributed and officials as well as teams are forced to use the app, the app should get polished. No back button forces you to start at the beginning when trying to flip through sections. Under gameplay fouls, section 8 and 9 say stick fouls. Proof reading would help.

  • Good information, horribly organized & optimized

Glad that the app works in offline mode now! (Lots of rinks have bad cell service from all the insulation in the ceiling)

Rules are written in a very convoluted manner, but with enough scenarios and explanation to make sense of each rule. Since this replaced the paper rule books, a digitized app presents great opportunity for embedded gifs or videos that better show exactly what a rule means… but that isn’t present.

Instead, the app is organized really poorly and it’s hard to find the information you want unless you put the correct keyword into the search bar. 18/22 categories in the “rule book content” section contains content that doesn’t actually help you learn the rules! Signals, glossary, technical rules, and gameplay fouls are the 4 main relevant sections, and they should be front & centre.

The “ask a ref” button doesn’t work. (Maybe they are confused about the rules after using the app too lol)

Attempting to swipe left to right and go back a page does not work. The animation exists to do so, therefore I assume this is a bug? A frustrating one to be sure, since you can be as many as 5 menus deep, go into the wrong page, and have to completely redo your search just to continue trying to find the information you want.

The app isn’t available in French? You cannot call yourself Hockey *Canada* and not have your rule book app capable of displaying the rules in both of your Country’s languages. Instead, the app redirects to the home page of HC’s website, where you can (eventually) find the rule book en français. Baffling.

A barely functional app with a disappointing lack of features and functionality… I would like my paper rule book back until this app is in a better state. But seeing as the app has been out for 8 years now and it is still broken, I remain unhopeful.
