Doom and destiny is a JRPG that has you follow four nerds through a magical world full of orcs, bandits, dragons, and some murderous chickens. I have dumped about 23 hours into this game and I believe I’m about 87% through the game as a whole. I have completed the story and I absolutely loved it. The writing is amazing and pays homage to other great games that I am sure that this game took inspiration from. The pacing is good and the grinding is still pretty fun and easy. The boss battles are always difficult but not too hard. The leveling system was really good too. I enjoyed the choice of what stats to boost when leveling up. The abilities or as they are known in this game as “powers”, are very well balanced and useful. Almost every power that you can pick up is useful and can be used against enemies while exploiting weaknesses. They really reward exploration by hiding secret areas throughout the game filled with money and items. The enemy variety is extremely diverse and filled to the brim with comedy and fun combat. Items are very useful and are not useless when you get a healing spell. The dungeons are complex and very fun to play through and the rings are fun to upgrade because of the challenge for each character. I barely have any complaints with the game either. Only complaints I have is that the map could be bigger, there is a bug that rarely occurs that prevents you from saving, and saving has no confirmation screen which has led to me saving over backup saves. One thing I have to say that I love is though is the fact that the game is not afraid to troll the played by wasting time in certain scenarios. In one area you have to collect some orbs with the promise of a super mega power as a reward. After traversing the map and doing challenges to get them the reward is nothing at all (unless I haven’t dug far enough in that area). The weapons and armor are very balanced and can really make or break your play through. Your stats rise and fall during the game when you switch equipment and it makes the player think and prioritize certain items, even if it doesn’t boost strength primarily. The arenas are fun and rewarding at times. Fun fact, you can grind the easier arenas and get the arena tokens and bring them to the harder arenas and cash the tokens in for the better equipment. The post game content is very fun and difficult. The side stories as well are very well done and I have heard of a super boss that I will be taking on soon. So to conclude, I have to give this game a 10/10 because of the writing, gameplay, hidden content, and for the truly nerdy gameplay. That’s all from me and remember to praise the almighty spaghetti monster!
