1.6.603

February 5, 2021

Bug fix: With the release of iOS 14.4, lesson videos started hiding the interface around them, stranding users in the video with no way to get out. For some unknown reason, displaying the status bar at the top of the app prevents this bug. It's kind of ugly, and overlaps the Syntorial interface a bit, so this will be removed in the near future. Bug fix: Intermittent crash after logging in and answering "yes" to "Can we collect usage information?" We've fixed this bug by no longer collecting usage information.

You'll then be able to access the latest version of your presets via the Files app on your iPad, or iTunes File Sharing on your computer. • Bug fix: Bluetooth headphones were only receiving a mono signal from the synth. Now it's stereo. • Few additional minor bug fixes.

User Presets and Favorites are now shared between Syntorial and Primer. NOTE: If you already have presets in User Presets or Favorites you must update Syntorial, go into the Menu, and select "Launch Synth" before they'll show up in Primer. This will copy them over to the shared location where Primer can access them. This only has to be done once.

- The last version was crashing in iOS 12. This version isn't. #magic - Removed IAA and Audiobus support. Don't be mad! We'll be releasing a new app called "Primer" very soon, which will be the exact same synth used in Syntorial. Except this puppy will also be an App Extension, which you can open in Audiobus, Garageband, and any other App Extension-compatible app. Trust us when we say this is better, as you'll be able to open up unlimited Primers in one session, as opposed to being limited to just one Syntorial. That's why you shouldn't be mad. #behappy

"Syntorial is the most direct route between hearing a sound in your head and knowing how to bring it to life." - Electronic Musician Magazine "The most comprehensive and fun tool for learning synthesizer programming, hands down." - Keyboard Magazine “The best training in synth sound-design we’ve come across. This is information that you can immediately apply to real-life situations. • It's All About The Ear: One step at a time, Syntorial trains your ear to recognize how each control shapes and manipulates sound. By the end of the program you’ll be able to take the sounds you hear and re-create them, completely by ear. LESSON SPECS • Challenges: Learn by doing! Complete challenges by programming patches with Syntorial’s built-in synth. • Videos: Everything is taught through video demonstrations using the same synth that you’ll use in the challenges. • Patches: Program, program, program. • Fantastic

Probably the best tutorial I’ve ever taken. Started in April and couldn’t wait for a sale as it is worth the price! Hope they do some lessons on Vital synth and Surge XT in the future.
  • Fantastic so far, exactly what I need

I’m a beginning synth student, was getting nowhere with overly technical jargonistic videos. Instead of focusing on technical details, this course focuses on sounds, and how to create those sounds. While some videos talk about ring oscillators and low pass filters, this course will show you what they sound like and how to use them. It’s ear training at its finest, which is a great way to teach music.

    Bravo!

  • great synth ear training, useful explanations

I am still quite new to synthesizers, and many synth enthusiasts talk about terms and parameters that are way over my head. A lot of this app is designed for you to use your ear to reproduce patches, which is something that I needed a lot of practice with.

I have heard there is a 2.0 version in development, and I have a few suggestions for improvement. (These may have been addressed already, I’m not sure)

On iPad the transition between the tutorial videos and the interactive sections is not seamless. The videos default to full screen, and when it finishes, you have to swipe in order to go out of full screen, and you only have a second to select the challenge button to proceed before it goes back to full screen again.

The tutorials gradually build up the amount of parameters in each patch by adding one section at a time. Certain groups are more challenging than others. I think it would be great in the future if the user could enable/disable certain sections to focus on what they need to practice on. From the middle of the tutorials towards the end, the amount of parameters can get a little overwhelming.

I did purchase the full content on sale, but I think the value is quite excellent, and there are not many products out there that are comparable for interactive synth learning!

Thanks for the feedback! The video issue your describing shouldn't be happening so that is most likely a bug. Reach out to support at support@syntorial.com and we can help you resolve it.
