Reviews of War Dragons

  • I am living proof this game is not a pay-to-win.

I have been playing this game since about 2016, and it’s something I always check on every once in a while and grind out a bit. I recently advanced past player level 420. I will say this, the sapphire dragons take a very long time to get past, but it will be done eventually if you’re smart about it. I like the combat system, it’s something that separates it from a lot of other base building games, and it allows for a more in-depth management of your arsenal. I have been seeing some sentiment that this game has become a bit of a pay-to-win, and I understand where this comes from. The shop and its offers are plentiful and prolific, and are dangled in front of the player many times during the game. There are some powerful lower tier dragons that cost rubies to get, instead of breeding them normally through the token system. Rubies, mind you, are a pretty inefficient currency, and the in-game transactions get so resource-intensive that they seem to devalue them. But the season rewards and chests earned from the events tend to give plenty of rewards that cover these. The method to not spend money on this game is two main things: persistence and playing your cards smartly.
  • Expect to pay BIG BUCKS in order to progress!

This game is fun except for the crappy servers PG has. One can get obsessed with it should you keep playing. It teaches about strategy and politics. HOWEVER, since Pocket Gems has taken over, it's become obvious they either don't care about their players, or are the worst business people in history. Obviously a game has to make money as it's a business, that's a given. However, with PG's crappy servers, inexperienced or inept programmers, and ever increasing amounts of materials in order to build/grow in game, they have driven most of the players into retiring the game. So their answer, you ask? Raise costs of materials again so you have to pay out of pocket to progress in game (at baseline a player spends $25 per month to get half decent amount of materials needed for game, not required but basically necessary) which in turn drives more people out of game. And around and around and around it goes. Used to love the game, but unless you're willing to spend hundreds of dollars a month, it's not worth it anymore. PG is doing a WONDERFUL job of breaking their own wheel. There are some people who are okay with hundreds out of pocket, so PG caters to them. So costs are rising, prizes are decreasing and people are leaving game. Go figure 🤷🏻‍♀️
GREAT JOB pocket games of shooting yourself in the foot and not noticing the resultant hemorrhaging! Bully for you!
  • Best Game Out There IMO

Okay. I have played War dragons for over 6 years I think now. If you have been a long time player before and left, consider coming back. 1) mythic dragons each season has a new dynamic; a more player driven you choose which dragon to make mythic. I like this very much because it better caters the game to the player by offering them the choice of dragon, which class, which element, etc to pick from. Right now they are doing 3 out of the 4 classes for choice to ascend to mythic BUT I think they should do all 4 classes and just give EVERYONE the option to fully choose. 2) atlas - it’s not perfect and heck it can seem frustrating, but it is dynamic and offers live competition without the monotony of pvp events. 3) there are some new pvp events; crystal caves… which I don’t mind. 4) chat stability and friends. I don’t play the game to be the best, I just play the game to relax and chat with team mates. We smash some bases, attack some castles, but we aren’t in the game to take over the world. If you want fun, friends, and dragons… it will serve your purpose. Don’t think it’s perfect. But it has kept me playing all these years so it can’t be all that bad. Cheers!
