Description of iPAR
iPAR estimates the Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR) using photos of the shadows on the orchard floor taken with an iPhone. Designed and supported by the Lampinen Lab at UC Davis.
iPAR gives an objective assessment on the canopy PAR interception of almond and walnut orchards providing an estimate of the potential yield and estimated nitrogen application needs for your almond or walnut orchard directly on your phone.
Photos are taken of shadows on the orchard floor on a clear day (no clouds) within one half hour of solar noon. The images are then processed to generate a summary directly on your iPhone.
You can also receive a summary of results by email and locate your orchard on an aerial image to easily spot spatial variations in the orchard.
