2.0.7

January 28, 2018

Works around an issue where iOS 11 is intermittently returning an invalid / non-existant path to the App Documents directory which resulted in ShredIt not being able to create its free space file and, in turn, requiring a force quit of the App, on iOS 11. This workaround moves the free space file creation to a temporary directory and a new temporary directory is created and deleted for each pass.

Check for writes of size 0. Insert a delay at the end of each pass to give iOS more time to unlink the file written for that pass.

Description of ShredIt Mobile

Please run ShredIt Mobile for iOS in the foreground. Running it in the background will take a *very* long time even if you don't have a lot of free space. If speed is important, make sure to choose no government standards and only a single overwrite of a fixed pattern. Following these steps will give you the best performance experience with the ShredIt App. ShredIt Mobile for iOS will write a large file to internal storage of your iOS device. This large file will fill up all the free space on your device and then it will be deleted to free up all the space again. You can configure ShredIt for iOS to perform this multiple times with different patterns. Because the file is unlinked when it is created, if something happens, like your device runs out of battery, the space is automatically returned by iOS. ShredIt Mobile will report both the size of the file it has created and how long it takes to fill it up.

Reviews of ShredIt Mobile

  • Exactly what I was looking for

I did not have a problem with speed. Having wiped many drives in the past, I knew what to expect. I have about 110GB free right now and I took a little over an hour to do a four pass “Mireth” wipe
  • Do not buy!

Ran the app twice. Phone never heated up. I was suspicious and tried to recover "wiped" data. Everything I had deleted I recovered in 5 minutes. Complete waste of money and time!
  • Not very user-friendly

So far I have yet to spend the required time to wipe an entire 128 GB iPhone. It seems the standard wipe takes over seven days to complete. Even if the app is running in the background you would think that the wipe we continue, but au contraire it eventually will stop at self before the wipe is complete. What a waste of money.
