Definitely worth the download
Before dining: the app was easy to install, locate my local restaurant, review the menu, and make a reservation. I'm shy about giving up both personal information and phone access privileges but it didn't demand more than necessary to get the job done.
During the meal: I can't really overstate how well Il Fornaio's waitstaff integrated the app into our dining experience. (Ever try to redeem a reward or coupon somewhere and get a blank - or even disapproving - stare? Our server seemed genuinely pleased). I'd searched for a promo code before registering and found a code for a free dessert: it was effortless to use. So was scanning the receipt. It Just Worked.
After: I must say, I was pleasantly surprised at how many reward points I received for the meal. Also, while I did get a couple of follow-up messages after, I haven't felt spammed at all.
Of course, YMMV... but if Il Fornaio's goal was to lure me back as a customer... well, mission accomplished. Even if you only eat here once in a blue moon, I think the loyalty app is well worth downloading!
