  • Will not allow me to register

All I get is “failed to register”. No explanation as to why. I’ve changed everything and still failed to register.
  • Good idea, but unreliable content

A lot of pins have no detail behind them at all, and most of the pins I found in my local area, are actually in no-fly areas. There was even a pin placed right on a local controlled airport!
Don’t trust that just because there is a pin there, you are actually allowed to fly there.
  • Can’t add locations and many added are illegal areas,

I have no means of adding locations that I can see.

Additionally nearly all the ones near me are within NFZ’s near my local airport. People who added them are ignorant of the law.

Quite ridiculous to allow locations without showing illegal areas. There are a number of forums and apps which do this properly and you can add locations with videos and comments.

Far better uk based apps than this.

  • Wrong information

Many zones that are shown are actually not suitable. Have personally emailed couple parks to confirm that. Although good try and great idea.
  • Ok app but one major thing missing

Like the app, would it not be a good feature to have a no fly boundary based on the current laws?
  • Unable to add locations

I love the idea of this app and really want it to work - the idea of sharing great flight experiences and places to fly for drone enthusiasts is brilliant. Unfortunately I’ve tried several times to save a location but it simply fails with an error message. Clearly it’s working for many users but in my experience it’s not been very good.
Please fix so you can save a pin anywhere on the map.

  • Drone Zone a must have app

This app is brilliant, not only to get inspiration where to fly but see other drone pilots opinions. But for
Me it is a permanent record of flight venue the notes I leave are reminders on such thing as access etc. But others I hope will find my notes/review useful, I think we will all be hearing more about this app, a definite must have.

  • Rubbish

    Update: 2 July 2018
Absolute rubbish. Two locations tagged. Don't waste your time downloading this.

Previous comment : 3 locations in Scotland , waste of time

    Developer Response

Have you checked for new locations recently? All of the locations are added by other users so building up the content takes time. Thanks for your review.
  • Was a good idea but actually full of crap

People can pin point anything, homes etc. Most of points breach dronecode. There's no report button to have recommendations reviewed/removed. Full of useless data. Dev appears to have left and non existent / responsive. Sooner this app stops working (or the Dev takes control and does housekeeping etc) the better.

  • Of Little use and maybe a little dangerous.....

The basis of the App could be a good idea but implementation falls down in more ways than one.

The small number of reviews contain several useful comments and suggestions but there is no sign that anyone is listening. The App has not been updated for over nine months so one has to ask the question whether it is a genuine University of Newcastle item or is a student product that is unlikely ever to be supported or updated. Whatever, it carries the University's stamp of approval.

Map pins show users places where they might enjoy flying. All users can add places to be seen by others.

Several of the pins around my own location are on National Trust land - private property where drone flying is specifically prohibited. I see multiple pins in a nearby zone where ALL flying is prohibited. The App and its authors provide no means for removing such locations from the map.

The original 'reviewers' may have got away with flying at these locations but anyone following their recommendations would not appreciate being at the receiving end of the wrath of the CAA.... fines and costs tend to be rather draconian.

Use the App with care and at follow its guidance your own peril.
